The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of different pressing temperatures on the physical and mechanical properties of Medium Density Particleboard (MDP) manufactured with sugarcane bagasse and waste plastic bags.The temperatures of 160, 180, 200 and 220ºC were evaluated for the panels pressing. The panels were produced with a nominal density of 0.70 g/cm3, a face/core ratio of 40:60, 12% urea-formaldehyde adhesive for the faces and 8% for the core. The panels were evaluated for properties of density, compaction ratio, humidity, water absorption after two and twenty-four hours (WA2h and WA24h), thickness swelling after 2 and 24 hours of immersion in water (TS2h and TS24h), module of rupture (MOR) and module of elasticity (MOE) in static bending, internal bonding, janka hardness and screw pulling. There was no significant effect of pressing temperature on density, MOR, MOE, internal bonding and janka hardness of the panels.The pressing temperature significantly influenced the properties of WA, TS and screw pullout, promoting a decrease in the mean values of WA2h, WA24h, TS2h and TS, and an increase in screw pullout resistance. The temperature of 220°C resulted in MDP panels with sugarcane bagasse and residual plastic bags of better quality.

Abstract Heat treatment aims to reduce the compression stresses generated during the panel production, improving its dimensional stability and providing greater resistance to attack by xylophagous organisms, despite decreasing the mechanical properties. This work aimed to evaluate the physical-mechanical properties of medium density particleboard (MDP) of Eucalyptus sp. subjected to post-heat treatment with two temperature levels (200 and 260ºC) and two periods (5 or 10 minutes). The apparent density, water absorption and thickness swelling (TS) after 2 and 24h, internal bonding, MOE and MOR in static bending were evaluated. The post-heat treatment at 200 °C for 5 minutes was the most efficient, improving the TS, with smaller reductions in the mechanical properties. The temperature had a greater influence in the first hours of immersion in water (TS2h), while for a longer period (TS24h) the heat treatment time was more effective. The temperature influenced the mechanical properties more negatively than the heat treatment time.

RESUMO As embalagens multicamadas são utilizadas por um período de tempo bastante curto gerando um volume de descarte elevado. Por serem formadas por diferentes materiais devido suas diversas camadas, sua reciclagem é dificultada. Sendo assim, são importantes novas aplicações para essas embalagens pós-consumo, como por exemplo o seu reaproveitamento em compósitos. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver e caracterizar compósitos à base de gesso reforçados com embalagens multicamadas trituradas. As proporções utilizadas para a incorporação dos reforços foram de 0%, 7,5%, 15%, 22,5% e 30% em substituição ao gesso. Foram produzidos corpos de prova (três repetições por tratamento) para avaliação das propriedades de absorção de água, umidade, massa específica aparente, compressão e flexão estática, os quais foram confeccionados com dimensões de 40 x 40 x 160 mm. Para o ensaio térmico, as dimensões foram de 200 x 200 x 20 mm. Os reforços adicionados levaram a um aumento em umidade e absorção de água, enquanto que, para massa específica aparente, condutividade térmica, resistência à flexão, resistência à compressão e rigidez na compressão houve decréscimo. A incorporação de embalagens multicamadas em compósitos de gesso mostrou ser uma alternativa viável, visto que, além de aplicar a logística reversa reutilizando estas embalagens que muitas vezes são descartadas no meio ambiente de maneira inadequada, gerando diversos impactos, ainda melhorou a propriedade térmica dos compósitos e diminuiu a densidade destes. Ademais, todas as porcentagens atenderam a normatização para resistência à flexão, e para a resistência à compressão, apenas a substituição de 30% não atendeu a normativa.

ABSTRACT The multilayer packages are used for a very short time generating a high discard volume. Because they are formed by different materials due to their several layers, their recycling is difficult. Therefore, new applications for these post-consumer packages are important, such as their reuse in composites. In this context, the objective of this work was to develop and characterize plaster based composites reinforced with crushed multilayer packages. The proportions used to incorporate reinforcements were 0%, 7.5%, 15%, 22.5% and 30%, replacing gypsum. Test specimens (three replicates per treatment) were produced to evaluate the properties of water absorption, moisture, apparent specific mass, compression and static bending, which were made with dimensions of 40 x 40 x 160 mm. For the thermal test, the dimensions were 200 x 200 x 20 mm. The added reinforcements led to an increase in moisture and water absorption, whereas, for apparent specific mass, flexural strength, compressive strength and stiffness in compression there was decrease. The incorporation of multilayer packages into plaster composites proved to be a viable alternative, since in addition to applying reverse logistics reusing these packages that are often discarded in the environment in an inadequate manner, generating several impacts, it also improved the thermal properties of the composites , their density decreased, all percentages complied with normalization for flexural strength, and for compression strength, only the 30% insertion did not meet the standards.

ABSTRACT The present study has the objective of evaluating the physical-mechanical properties of plywood produced with Acrocarpus fraxinifolius wood, as well as the effect of combining their veneer with Pinus veneer. The wood of Acrocarpus fraxinifolius and Pinus oocarpa were used in the production of the panels. The plywood was produced with five veneers; the adhesive used was phenol-formaldehyde, weighing 320 g.m-2. The evaluated properties were: equilibrium moisture (EM), specific mass (SM), water absorption (WA), thickness swelling (TS), shear strength (SS), modulus of rupture (MOR) and modulus of elasticity (MOE) both parallel and perpendicular to the fibers. No statistical difference was observed in the EM and TS, whereas all other properties showed statistical differentiation between the treatments. In general, the use of Acrocarpus fraxinifolius veneers improved the physical-mechanical properties of the compensated ones. Thus, the use of this species in the production of plywood is technically feasible.

ABSTRACT A wide range of materials for the development of new products can be obtained from natural resources. Good examples of these materials are lignocellulosic wastes, which are a good alternative for the production of particleboards. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using cotton wastes in association to eucalyptus particles in the production of particleboards. Cotton waste proportions used were 0, 10, 20 and 30%. Urea formaldehyde (UF) adhesive was applied at 12%, based on dry the weight of particles. Physical and mechanical tests were performed in order to evaluate panels. Water Absorption (2 and 24 h) and Internal Bond (IB) showed not significant effect with increased percentage of cotton waste. Thickness Swelling (2 and 24 h) of particleboards increased with increased percentage of waste material. The Modulus of Elasticity for cotton waste particleboards ranged from 726.47 ± 99.98 to 205.12 ± 66.24 MPa, while the Modulus of Rupture ranged from 8.63 ± 1.39 to 3.87 ± 0.75 MPa. According to results, cotton wastes could be added to particleboards up to the percentage of 9%, being indicated for the manufacture of some types of furniture such as doors and sides.

RESUMO O Brasil é o segundo maior produtor de soja do mundo, com produções em torno de 96,2 milhões de toneladas por safra. Essa alta produtividade acarreta em um número expressivo de resíduos gerados pelo cultivo da soja, o que pode chegar a aproximadamente 41 milhões de toneladas de resíduos por ano. Este material possui propriedades lignocelulósicas, o que pode possibilitar sua utilização como matéria-prima para a produção de painéis aglomerados. Sendo assim, objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar a utilização da vagem da soja na produção de painéis aglomerados. Para a manufatura dos painéis aglomerados foi utilizado madeira do híbrido Eucalyptus urophylla e Eucalyptus grandis em composição com a vagem de soja, nas proporções de 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% e 100%. Para a avaliação dos painéis utilizou-se de delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e três repetições, utilizou-se a regressão linear e o teste de médias de Scott-Knott a 5% de significância para comparação entre os diferentes tratamentos. Foram avaliadas as propriedades densidade aparente, razão de compactação, absorção de água após 2 h e 24 h, inchamento em espessura após 2 h e 24 h em imersão em água, ligação interna, módulo de ruptura e módulo de elasticidade na flexão estática. O efeito da proporção de resíduo de vagem da soja com partículas de eucalipto nos painéis promoveu aumento nos valores de absorção de água e inchamento em espessura e diminuição das propriedades mecânicas. Os painéis produzidos com aproximadamente 23% de vagem da soja possuem viabilidade técnica de produção.

ABSTRACT Brazil is the second largest soybean producer in the world, with a yield of around 96.2 million tons per crop. This high yield leads to a great amount of waste resulting from soybean cultivation, which can reach approximately 41 million tons of waste per year. This material has lignocellulosic properties, which may enable its use as a raw material for particleboard production. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the use of soybean pods in particleboard production. For particleboard manufacture, wood of the hybrid Eucalyptus urophylla and Eucalyptus grandis was used, added with soybean pods, at proportions of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. For particleboard evaluation, a completely randomized design was used, with five treatments and three replicates, using linear regression and the Scott-Knott test at 5% significance for comparison among the different treatments. The properties apparent density, compaction ratio, water absorption after 2 and 24 hours, thickness swelling after 2 and 24 hours in water immersion, internal bonding, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity in bending properties were evaluated. The ratio soybean pod waste and eucalyptus particles in the panels led to an increase in water absorption values and thickness swelling, in addition to a decrease in mechanical properties. The production of panels with approximately 23% soybean pods is feasible.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different radial regions of Pinus oocarpa wood on the physical and mechanical properties of particleboard panels. Three different radial regions (internal, intermediate and external) and the mixture (integral log) were assessed. Experimental panels were produced with a nominal density of 0.70 g/cm3 using 8% urea-formaldehyde adhesive; they were compressed at a specific pressure of 40 kgf/cm2 and temperature of 160 °C, for 8 minutes. Wood radial position affected particleboard quality and a direct influence of the chemical composition and density of the material used was observed. Only the panels produced the mixture (integral log) and with the internal region met all the requirements stipulated by the marketing standard.

RESUMO Nesta pesquisa, objetivou-se avaliar o potencial da madeira de Eucalyptus grandis e partículas de borracha de pneu na produção de painéis cimento-madeira. Foram utilizadas madeiras de Eucalyptus grandis com 8 anos de idade, provenientes da Companhia Mineira de Metais, localizada no município de Paracatu -MG. Para a formação dos painéis foi utilizado cimento Portland CPV-ARI/Plus de alta resistência inicial como aglutinante mineral e cloreto de cálcio (CaCl2) como acelerador de cura do cimento. Os painéis foram produzidos com os seguintes parâmetros: dimensões de 48,0 x 48,0 x 1,5 cm, densidade nominal de 1,2 g/cm3, relação madeira:cimento (1:2,5) e relação água:cimento (1:1,5). Os painéis foram prensados com pressão específica de 4 MPa, a temperatura ambiente, tempo de prensagem/grampeamento de 24 horas e tempo de maturação de 28 dias. A análise dos resultados obtidos, em relação aos requisitos mínimos de painéis convencionais produzidos pelo processo Bison, permite afirmar que: (1) para as propriedades físicas de densidade aparente, absorção de água e inchamento em espessura todos os tratamentos atenderam as especificações; (2) para as propriedades mecânicas de ligação interna e módulo de ruptura no ensaio de flexão estática, todos os tratamentos atenderam as especificações; (3) para compressão e módulo de elasticidade no ensaio de flexão estática, nenhum dos tratamentos apresentaram valores compatíveis com o processo bison.

ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the potential of Eucalyptus grandis wood and rubber tire particles in the production of cement-wood panels. Eucalyptus grandis wood, 8 years old, was obtained from Companhia Mineira de Metais, located in the city of Paracatu -MG. For the formation of the panels, high initial strength CPV-ARI/Plus Portland cement was used as mineral binder and calcium chloride (CaCl2) as a cement cure accelerator. The panels were produced with the following parameters: dimensions of 48,0 x 48,0 x 1,5 cm, nominal density of 1,2 g / cm3, relation wood: cement (1:2.5) and water: cement ratio (1:1.5). The panels were pressed at a specific pressure of 4 MPa, at room temperature, 24 hour pressing/stapling time, and 28 day maturation time. The analysis of the results obtained, in relation to the minimum requirements of conventional panels produced by the Bison process, allows to affirm that: (1) for the physical properties of apparent density, water absorption and swelling in thickness all the treatments met the specifications; (2) for the mechanical properties of internal bonding and modulus of rupture in the static bending test, all treatments met the specifications; (3) for compression and modulus of elasticity in the static bending test, none of the treatments presented values compatible with the bison process.

The present study was to evaluate the effect of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) particle sizes on the mechanical and physical properties of extruded fiber-cement composites with different particle sizes combined to cellulose pulp in the production of fiber cement by the extrusion process. The design consisted of four formulations, one composed of 5% cellulose and the other three with 2.5% cellulosic pulp and 2.5% of PET particles with different particle sizes. Physical, mechanical and microstructural tests were performed without aging cycles and after 200 and 400 accelerated aging cycles. The degradation of vegetable fibers in the cement and the decrease of properties with aging was observed. PET particles were more resistant in alkaline environment and did not degrade. However, particle size did not exert great effect in the physical and mechanical properties of the composite. Thus, the use of PET particles shows potential as a reinforcement for fiber-cement composites.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar o efeito da inclusão laminar sobre as propriedades físicas e mecânicas de painéis aglomerados de bagaço de cana-de-açúcar. Foram utilizados painéis comerciais de bagaço de cana-de-açúcar produzidos na China. Para avaliar o efeito da inclusão laminar foram avaliadas duas espécies de madeira (Pinus e Eucalyptus) e duas pressões (10 e 15 kgf.cm-2), juntamente com um controle (sem inclusão laminar). Os painéis com inclusão laminar obtiveram melhorias nas propriedades físicas, com uma redução significativa na AA2h, AA24h e IE2h. Houve um aumento significativo nas propriedades MOE e MOR paralelo e dureza Janka, enquanto as propriedades MOE e MOR perpendicular diminuíram significativamente. A inclusão laminar de pinus e eucalipto resultou em resultados semelhantes quando adicionadas ao painel com uma pressão de 10 kgf.cm-2. O uso de pressão de 15 kgf.cm-2 não é indicado para a inclusão laminar de pinus em painéis de bagaço de cana-de-açúcar. Não houve efeito do nível de pressão ao avaliar a inclusão laminar de eucalipto nas propriedades dos painéis de bagaço de cana-de-açúcar.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to assess the effect of the laminar inclusion on the physical and mechanical properties of sugarcane bagasse particleboard. We used the commercial panels of sugarcane bagasse produced in China. To evaluate the effect of the laminar inclusion was tested two wood species (Pinus and Eucalyptus) and two pressures (10 and 15 kgf.cm-2) along with a control (without laminar inclusion). The panels with laminar inclusion obtained improvements in the physical properties, with a significant reduction in the WA2h, WA24h and TS2h. There was a significant increase in the properties MOE and MOR parallel and Janka hardness, while the properties MOE and MOR perpendicular decreased significantly. The pinus and eucalyptus veneers inclusion resulted in similar results when added to the panel with a 10 kgf.cm-2 pressure. The use of 15 kgf.cm-2 pressure is not indicated for the pinus veneer inclusion in sugar cane bagasse panels. There was no effect of the pressure level when evaluating the eucalyptus veneer inclusion on the properties of the sugarcane bagasse panels.

RESUMO A indústria de painéis de madeira vem em constante crescimento, sendo necessária a inovação em tecnologias e matéria-prima para melhorar a qualidade do produto final. Considerando a escassez e pressão na diminuição da dependência por madeira, existe um interesse em outros materiais renováveis, como os resíduos agrícolas. Entre esses resíduos, o pergaminho de café merece destaque. Uma alternativa para utilização do pergaminho de café poderia ser na produção de particulados, em associação com partículas de madeira. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a viabilidade de utilização do pergaminho de café para produção de aglomerados. As porcentagens de resíduo utilizadas foram: 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 e 50% em associação com madeira de eucalipto. Os painéis foram produzidos com 8% de uréia-formaldeído (base massa seca de partículas). O ciclo de prensagem consistiu de: pré-prensagem de 0,5 MPa por 10 minutos, seguido por prensagem de 4,0 MPa e temperatura de 160° C por 15 minutos. A razão de compactação dos painéis produzidos com maiores quantidades de pergaminho melhorou as propriedades físicas. As propriedades de absorção de água (2 e 24 h) e inchamento em espessura (2 h) diminuíram com o aumento da porcentagem de pergaminho de café. O inchamento em espessura (24 h) não apresentou diferenças significativas com o aumento de resíduo de café. O Módulo de Elasticidade dos painéis variou de 646,49 ± 112,65 até 402,03 ± 66,24 MPa, enquanto o Módulo de Ruptura variou de 8,18 ± 1,39 até 4,45 ± 0,75 MPa. Os resultados mostraram que até 10% de pergaminho de café poderia ser adicionados para a produção de painéis aglomerados.

ABSTRACT The wood panel industry is constantly growing, being necessary the innovation in technologies and raw materials to improve the quality of the final product. Considering the shortage and pressure to decrease the dependence of wood, there is an interest in other renewable materials such as agricultural wastes. Among these wastes, coffee parchment is one which deserves notoriety. An alternative use for coffee parchment could be for production of particleboard in association with wood particles. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using coffee parchment for production of particleboard. The following percentages of wastes were used: 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% in association to eucalyptus wood. The panels were produced with 8% of urea formaldehyde (based on dry weight of particles). The pressing cycle consisted by: pre-pressing of 0.5 MPa for 10 minutes followed by pressing of 4.0 MPa, and temperature of 160° C for 15 minutes. The compaction ratio of particleboards produced using higher quantities of parchment improved the physical properties. The properties of Water Absorption (2 and 24 h) and Thickness Swelling (2 h) decreased with increasing percentage of coffee parchment. The Thickness Swelling (24 h) showed not significant effect with an increase of coffee waste. The Modulus of Elasticity for coffee parchment particleboards was in the range 646.49 ± 112.65 to 402.03 ± 66.24 MPa, while the Modulus of Rupture ranged from 8.18 ± 1.39 to 4.45 ± 0.75 MPa. The results showed that 10% of coffee parchment could be added for production of particleboards.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade de painéis particulados produzidos com diferentes formulações, variando percentagens de adesivo e casca de arroz (Oryza sativa L.) adicionadas à madeira de Cunninghamia lanceolata. Três teores de adesivo (6, 9 e 12%) e três proporções de casca de arroz (25, 50 e 75%) foram combinados resultando em 9 formulações. Para analisar a influência de cada matéria-prima na qualidade final dos painéis, sua composição química foi determinada de acordo com os teores de extrativos, componentes minerais, lignina e holocelulose. Os painéis aglomerados foram avaliados pelas seguintes propriedades físicas e mecânicas: absorção de água (AA), inchamento em espessura (IE), ligação interna (LI), compressão paralela (CP), módulo de elasticidade (MOE) e módulo de ruptura (MOR) na flexão estática. Os valores médios das propriedades físicas e mecânicas demonstraram que menores teores de casca de arroz e maiores teores de adesivo ocasionaram melhor desempenho dos painéis. O baixo teor de lignina e alto teor de cinzas da casca de arroz influenciaram negativamente a qualidade dos painéis. Dentre as formulações avaliadas, painéis com inclusão de 25% de casca de arroz e 9% de ureia-formaldeído apresentaram os melhores resultados. Os painéis produzidos neste trabalho são alternativas potenciais para aplicações gerais em condições secas que não demandem alta resistência mecânica. No entanto, o processo e as formulações necessitam ser ajustados para aplicações estruturais mais exigentes.

ABSTRACT This work aimed to evaluate the quality of particleboards made with different formulations, varying adhesive content and rice husk (Oryza sativa L.) proportions added to Cunninghamia lanceolata wood. Three adhesive contents (6, 9 and 12%) and three proportions of rice husk added to wood (25, 50 and 75%) were combined resulting in 9 formulations of particleboards. In order to analyze the influence of each raw material in the final quality of the boards, their chemical composition was determined, including extractive, ash, lignin and holocellulose contents. Regarding the particleboards, the following physical and mechanical properties were evaluated: water absorption (WA), thickness swelling (TS), internal bonding (IB), parallel compression (PC), modulus of elasticity (MOE) and modulus of rupture (MOR) in static bending. For both mechanical and physical properties, average values showed that lower rice husk proportions and higher adhesive contents induced to better performance. Low lignin and high ash contents found in rice husks negatively influenced particleboard quality. Among the formulations tested, the inclusion of 25% of rice husk and 9% urea-formaldehyde presented the best results. Particleboards produced in this work are potential alternatives for general applications in dry conditions that do not require high mechanical resistance. Nevertheless, the process and formulations need to be adjusted in order to reach the requirements for more demanding structural applications.

This study was to evaluate the effect of post-heat treatment on the physical and mechanical properties of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) panels. Commercial MDF panels were produced in Brazil using Pinus wood and urea-formaldehyde (UF) adhesive. The post-heat treatments were carried in a factorial 3 x 2 (three temperatures of heat treatment - 200, 225 and 250 °C, and two times - 5 and 10 minutes), and a control treatment (without heat treatment). Subsequently, the physical and mechanical tests were performed. From the results it can be concluded that: 1) The most effective thermal post-treatment for improving the dimensional stability of the MDF was applied at 225 ° C and 10 min; 2) All the thermally treated panels revealed a significant decrease in the modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity (MOR and MOE) to bending when compared with the control panels without post-heat treatment.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of commercial panels produced with sugarcane bagasse to investigate the possibility of us for the production of furniture. We evaluated industrial MDP (Medium density particleboard) panels made of Eucalyptus and Pinus by two Brazilian companies and an industrial MDP panel made from sugarcane bagasse, produced in China. We tested the physical characteristics of water absorption and thickness swelling of the panels after 2 and 24 h of immersion in water. To estimate the moisture content and density, we followed the procedure detailed in NBR 14810-3¹. The mechanical properties were characterized by performing bending (moduli of elasticity and rupture), compression (moduli of elasticity rupture), internal bonding, screw pullout and Janka hardness tests. We found that panels made from sugarcane bagasse showed comparable with or superior physical and mechanical properties to those made from Eucalyptus and Pinus.

RESUMO Uma forma alternativa para produção de fibrocimento é a extrusão, que permite entre muitas vantagens a produção de compósitos cimentícios com geometrias diferenciadas e requer baixo investimento inicial para produção industrial. Nesse contexto,o objetivo desse trabalho foi obter micro/nanofibrilas celulósicas de Eucalyptus e avaliar o efeito da adição de diferentes conteúdos dessas micro/nanofibrilas nas propriedades físico-mecânicas de fibrocimentos envelhecidos naturalmente e em ambiente climatizado. Micro/nanofibrilas celulósicas produzidas em desfibrilador mecânico foram caracterizadas quanto a sua morfologia. Compósitos extrudados produzidos com 0,5% e 1,0% (em massa) de micro/nanofibrilas foram comparados com compósitos sem micro/nanofibrilas. Compósitos produzidos a partir das três formulações foram submetidos aoenvelhecimento natural e em ambiente controlado para posterior caracterização por flexão estática, vibração flexural e propriedades físicas. Não houve diferença significativa no módulo de ruptura (MOE), limite de proporcionalidade (LOP), e deformação específica total entre os compósitos com reforço de 0,5 e 1,0% de micro/nanofibrilas e aqueles sem reforço. O módulo elástico estático (MOE) aumentou, e a energia específica diminuiu com 1,0% de micro/nanofibrilas. O módulo de elasticidade dinâmico (E) dos compósitos aumentou com o incremento do conteúdo de micro/nanofibrilas (1,0%) e do tempo de exposição ao envelhecimento natural e controlado. O presente estudo indica que as propriedades físicas (absorção de água - AA, porosidade aparente - PA e densidade aparente - DA) e mecânicas de fibrocimentos são sensíveis à formulação e que esse comportamento varia em função do tempo (135 dias). Essas informações devem ser consideradas úteis para o desenvolvimento de novos materiais reforçados com micro/nanofibrilas de celulose.

ABSTRACT Extrusion is an alternative process for fiber-cement production and allows many advantages such as different geometries for the extruded products and the low initial investment for industrial production. In this context the aim of this study was to produce cellulose micro/nanofibrils from Eucalyptus pulp and evaluate the properties of cementitious composites made with different contents of cellulose micro/nanofibrils. Cellulose micro/ nanofibrils were produced using a mechanical defibrillator, and characterized for their morphology. Extruded composites were produced with 0.5 to 1.0% (by mass) of micro/ nanofibrils and compared to unreinforced composites. Composites reinforced with 1.0% of micro/nanofibrils presented higher water absorption and apparent porosity than their counter parts. No significant differences were observed for modulus of rupture (MOR), limit of proportionality (LOP) and final specific deformation, between the composites reinforced with 0.5% and 1.0% of micro/nanofibrils and those with no reinforcement. The static elastic modulus (MOE) increased and specific energy decreased with the inclusion of 1.0% of micro/nanofibrils. Dynamic elastic modulus (E) of the composites increased with the increase of micro/nanofibrils content and of weathering exposition. This study indicates that fiber-cements are sensitive to changes in structural composition and time of ageing (135 days). This information can be useful for developing of new products based on cellulose micro/nanofibrils.
