RESUMEN El frijol negro (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) es una especie de gran importancia para la agricultura familiar, tanto para la seguridad alimentaria como para la actividad socioeconómica. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la viabilidad fisiológica y sanitaria de semillas de frijol negro almacenadas con diferentes humedades iniciales y periodos de almacenamiento en frío. El diseño utilizado fue completamente al azar, 3×5 (niveles de humedad de la semilla: 10, 13 y 16, y periodos de almacenamiento: 0, 3, 6, 9 y 12 meses en cámaras frigoríficas). Se utilizaron cuatro repeticiones en cada unidad experimental. Semillas de frijol variedade IPR88 Uirapuru fueron cultivadas en el municipio de Santa Maria, Brazil, cosechadas en marzo de 2020, y almacenadas en cámara frigorífica (15ºC y 40% HR) en bolsas de papel Kraft (tipo marrón de 1,0 kg). Se evaluaron las varieables fisiológicas y calidad sanitaria mediante pruebas de laboratorio. De acuerdo con los resultados, es posible verificar que la calidad fisiológica y sanitaria del frijol negro se vieron afectadas negativamente, con el aumento del periodo de almacenamiento, en todos los grados, sin embargo, es posible almacenar estas semillas en condiciones humedad de 10 a 13% por un periodo de hasta nueve meses en cámara frigorífica, con calidad de germinación del 70%.

ABSTRACT Black beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are a species of great importance for family farming, both for food security and socioeconomic activity. The objective of this work was to assess the physiological and sanitary viability of black bean seeds stored with different initial moisture contents and cold storage periods. It was used a completely randomized design, 3×5 (seed moisture levels: 10, 13 and 16%, and storage periods: 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months in cold rooms, with four repetitions). Black bean seeds belonging to variety IPR88 Uirapuru were grown in the municipality of Santa Maria, Brazil, harvested in March 2020, and stored in a cold room (15ºC and 40% RH) in Kraft paper bags (brown type, 1.0 kg). Physiological variables and sanitary quality were assessed through laboratory tests. According to the results, it was possible to verify that the physiological and sanitary quality of black beans were negatively affected with the increase of storage period, in all grades. However, it is possible to store these seeds with moisture contents of 10 or 13% for a period of up to nine months in a cold room, with a 70% germination quality.

Resumo: O trigo mourisco é uma espécie com grande potencial econômico e de produção, a qual tem ganhado cada vez mais importância. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a qualidade física, fisiológica e sanitária de amostras provenientes de lotes de sementes, e avaliar a patogenicidade de Fusarium spp. em plantas de trigo mourisco. A qualidade física e fisiológica foi avaliada pelo peso de mil sementes, grau de umidade, teste de germinação (5° e 7° dias), comprimento de plântula e massa seca de plântula, enquanto que a qualidade sanitária foi determinada pelo teste de sanidade em papel filtro, com as sementes submetidas à assepsia e sem assepsia. Os isolados de Fusarium spp. foram obtidos de plântulas sintomáticas no teste de germinação em rolo de papel. Para a identificação e caracterização dos isolados fúngicos foram utilizadas abordagens morfológicas e moleculares. A patogenicidade foi realizada em plantas sadias em ambiente controlado. Os lotes apresentaram alta qualidade fisiológica na avaliação de germinação (5° e 7° dias). Houve alta incidência de Fusarium spp. em todos os lotes, a qual pode ser diminuída com a assepsia das sementes. Os isolados foram identificados como complexo de espécies de Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti, e foram patogênicos às plantas de trigo mourisco.

Abstract: Buckwheat is a species with great economic and production potential, which has gained increasing importance. This study aimed to determine the physical, physiological, and sanitary quality of samples from seed lots, and to evaluate the pathogenicity of Fusarium spp. in buckwheat plants. Physical and physiological quality was evaluated by the thousand-seed weight, moisture content, germination test (5th and 7th days), seedling length, and seedling dry mass, while sanitary quality was determined by the health test on filter paper, with the seeds subjected to asepsis and without asepsis. Isolates of Fusarium spp. were obtained from symptomatic seedlings in the paper roll germination test. To identify and characterize fungal isolates, morphological and molecular approaches were used. Pathogenicity was determined on healthy plants in a controlled environment. The lots showed high physiological quality in the germination evaluation (5th and 7th days). There was a high incidence of Fusarium spp. in all lots, which can be reduced with seed asepsis. The isolates were identified as Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti species complex, and were pathogenic to buckwheat plants.

ABSTRACT Chenopodium quinoa Willd (quinoa) is a pseudo cereal that has been gaining prominence in production in several regions, due to increased demand in the consumer market. In the search to reduce productivity losses caused by pathogens, this work aimed to evaluate the cytogenotoxic potential of aqueous extracts of Syzygium aromaticum L., a possible alternative treatment for quinoa seeds. The seeds were treated with extracts produced from S. aromaticum flowers buds at 2, 4, 6 and 8%. A water control was included. Germination, first germination count, germination speed index, emergence and sanity were evaluated. The design was completely randomized, composed of 100 seeds in five treatments. The incidence of fungi was quantified and subsequently, the cytogenotoxicity test was performed on Allium cepa. It was observed that the treatment of quinoa seeds with aqueous extract of S. aromaticum only affected germination and vigor at the highest concentration used (8%) and reduced the incidence of fungi. A negative effect on cell division was demonstrated but no genotoxic effect. Used at 4% (m / v) it could be an alternative for the treatment of quinoa seeds.

RESUMEN Chenopodium quinoa Willd (quinoa) es un pseudo cereal que ha ido ganando protagonismo productivo en varias regiones debido al aumento de la demanda del mercado de consumo. En la búsqueda de la reducción de las pérdidas de productividad causadas por patógenos, este trabajo tuvo como objetivo evaluar el potencial citogenotóxico de extractos acuosos de Syzygium aromaticum, posible tratamiento alternativo de semillas de quinua. Las semillas fueron tratadas con extractos producidos a partir de flores de S. aromaticum al 2, 4, 6 y 8%. Se incluyó un control con agua. Se evaluó la germinación, primer recuento de germinación, índice de velocidad de germinación, emergencia y sanidad. El diseño fue completamente aleatorizado, compuesto por 100 semillas en cinco tratamientos. Se cuantificó la incidencia de hongos y posteriormente, se realizó la prueba de citogenotoxicidad en Allium cepa. Se observó que el tratamiento de semillas de quinua con extracto acuoso de S. aromaticum solo afectó la germinación y el vigor a la mayor concentración empleada (8%) y redujo la incidencia de hongos. Se demostró un efecto negativo sobre la división celular pero no efecto genotóxico. Empleado al 4% (m/v) podría ser una alternativa para el tratamiento de semillas de quinoa.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e quantificar a eficácia do polímero na retenção de perdas por lixiviação do tratamento fitossanitário em sementes de soja com diferentes diâmetros e tratadas sob diferentes formas. Foram utilizados dois lotes de sementes com diferentes diâmetros e foram realizadas duas formas de aplicação do tratamento: polímero associados ao tratamento fitossanitário na mesma calda e aplicação do polímero em camada após o tratamento, sendo os tratamentos formados da seguinte maneira: Control= sem tratamento, Treat+pol= Tratamento fitossanitário + polímero aplicados na mesma calda, Treat/pol= Tratamento fitossanitário + polímero aplicados em camadas, Treat= Tratamento fitossanitário. Para avaliação da retenção do tratamento pelo polímero foi utilizado um extrator e realizada a quantificação do ingrediente ativo tiametoxam lixiviado. Para avaliação da qualidade fisiológica foram realizados os testes de germinação, primeira contagem, emergência, envelhecimento acelerado, comprimento de plântulas, massa seca de plântulas e grau de umidade. A aplicação de polímero associado ao tratamento fitossanitário de sementes foi eficiente na diminuição das perdas por lixiviação, reduzindo em 20% a perda de produtos. Não houve diferença na capacidade de retenção e na qualidade fisiológica entre as diferentes formas de aplicação do polímero. Sementes de maior tamanho apresentam maior vigor, porém a germinação não é afetada.

Abstract This study evaluated the physiological quality and quantified the efficiency of polymer in reducing the loss of phytosanitary products by leaching from soybean seeds of different diameters and in different treatments. Two lots of seed and two types of treatments were tested: polymers associated with seed treatment, and polymer application in layers after the seed treatment. For that, the following treatments were analyzed: Control= no seed treatment; Treat+pol= seed treatment + polymers in the mix; Treat/pol= seed treatment + polymers applied in layers; Treat= seed treatment. To evaluate seed treatment retention by the polymers, extraction equipment was employed and leaching of the active ingredient thiamethoxam was quantified. Evaluation of physical quality was conducted with tests of germination rate, first count, emergence rate, accelerated aging, seedling length, seedling dry mass and moisture content. Polymer application associated with seed treatment was efficient in reducing losses by leaching, reducing product loss by 20%. No significant differences in retention and physiological quality were found when different methods for polymer application were compared. Bigger seeds presented greater vigor, but the germination rate was unaffected.

O objetivo deste trabalho consistiu em avaliar as características biométricas e fisiológicas de diásporos (carcerulídeo: fruto concrescido com a semente) de Echium plantagineum colhidas em diferentes épocas, e a influência do armazenamento dos diásporos na germinação e viabilidade das sementes. Utilizou-se um fatorial 5 x 2 para avaliar as épocas de colheita dos frutos (03/out, 18/out, 01/nov, 15/nov e 01/dez) e tratamento de quebra da dormência (presença ou ausência). Os diásporos foram submetidos a avaliação da qualidade fisiológica, através de testes de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e viabilidade das sementes após cada colheita e depois do armazenamento durante seis meses, bem como a caracterização biométrica dos mesmos. Os frutos produzidos no início do período reprodutivo apresentam maiores dimensões e maior massa, ocorrendo dormência das sementes antes da dispersão do fruto. Ocorre variação na germinação das sementes de E. plantagineumno decorrer das épocas de colheita dos frutos, podendo estar relacionada com fatores genéticos e ambientais. A dormência das sementes é quebrada com o armazenamento durante seis meses e a imersão em nitrato de potássio (0,2%) durante 12-h e ácido giberélico (500 mg L-1) durante 48-h.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the biometric and physiological characteristics of diaspores (carcerulide: seeded seed fruit) of Echium plantagineum harvested at different times, and the influence of diaspores storage on seed germination and viability. A 5 x 2 factorial was used to evaluate fruit harvesting times (03/Oct, 18/Oct, 01/Nov, 15/Nov and 01/Dec) and dormancy break treatment (presence or absence). The diaspores were submitted to physiological quality evaluation through tests of germination, germination speed index and seed viability after each harvested and after storage for six months, as well as their biometric characterization. The fruits produced at the beginning of the reproductive period present have larger dimensions and larger mass, occurring seeds dormancy before fruit dispersal. There is variation in the germination of E. plantagineum seeds during the fruit harvesting periods, which may be related to genetic and environmental factors. Seed dormancy is broken with storage for six months and immersion in potassium nitrate (0.2%) for 12-h and gibberellic acid (500 mg L-1) for 48-h.

ABSTRACT The safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) has a wide diversity of use, such as feeding, oil extraction and floral stems for ornamentation. However, it has low productivity due to the high susceptibility to attack by pathogenic microorganisms during its culture. For this reason, seed treatment is an alternative for protection and to guarantee sanitary quality. The objective of the present work was to determine the effect of leaf powder from three plant species on the physiological and sanitary quality of safflower seeds (Carthamus tinctorius L.) stored for different periods of time. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in 10x3 factorial (leaf powder combinations and seed storage periods), with four repetitions. The seed lot was stored with an average moisture content of 9%. Leaves of Melia azedarach L., Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev and Tagetes erecta L. were dried and crushed to obtain powder that was applied to the seeds at the doses of: zero (control), 1, 2 and 3 g kg-1 of seeds. Seed quality was evaluated through germination, seedling length and mass, emergence and health tests. The use of leaf powder from M. azedarach, D. grandiflora and T. erecta as a treatment of safflower seeds was beneficial for the control of the infestation by phytopathogenic fungi and increased its potential for germination and emergence in the field. The results indicated that it have potential for the treatment of safflower seeds stored for different periods of time.

RESUMEN El cártamo (Carthamus tinctorius L.) presenta una amplia diversidad de uso, como alimentación, extracción de aceite y vástagos florales para ornamentación. Sin embargo, presenta baja productividad debido a la alta susceptibilidad al ataque de microorganismos patógenos durante su cultivo. Por ello, el tratamiento de semillas es una alternativa para la protección y garantizar la calidad sanitaria. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar el efecto de polvo de hojas de tres especies de plantas sobre la calidad fisiológica y sanitaria de semillas de cártamo (Carthamus tinctorius L.) almacenados por diferentes períodos de tiempo. El experimento fue realizado en un diseño completamente al azar, en factorial 10x3 (combinaciones de polvo de hojas y períodos de almacenamiento de semillas), con cuatro repeticiones. El lote de semillas fue almacenado con grado de humedad promedio del 9%. Hojas de Melia azedarach L., Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev y Tagetes erecta L. se secaron y trituraron hasta obtener polvo que se aplicó a las semillas a las dosis de: cero (control), 1, 2 y 3 g kg-1 de semillas. Se evaluó la calidad de las semillas a través de las pruebas de germinación, longitud y masa de plántulas, emergencia y sanidad. El uso de polvo de hojas a partir de M. azedarach, de D. grandiflora y T. erecta como tratamiento de semillas de cártamo fue benéfico para el control de la infestación por hongos fitopatógenos e incrementó su potencial de germinación y de emergencia en el campo. Los resultados indicaron que tienen potencial para el tratamiento de semillas de cártamo almacenadas por diferentes períodos de tiempo.

Resumo A conservação das hastes florais cortadas tem como finalidade prolongar a durabilidade, manter a qualidade e reduzir as perdas após a colheita, propiciando um período maior de vida útil e comercialização. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade e a durabilidade na pós-colheita de hastes florais frescas de cártamo (Carthamus tinctorius L.) colhidas em diferentes épocas e submetidas a diferentes soluções conservantes. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado e, organizado em esquema fatorial 4x8 (quatro soluções conservantes e oito épocas de colheita), com quatro repetições, sendo cada unidade experimental constituída de cinco hastes florais. O cultivo das hastes florais de cártamo ocorreu no Setor de Floricultura e as épocas de colheita das mesmas foram realizadas no início da floração a partir da semeadura realizada na primeira quinzena estacional: no inverno, primavera e verão de 2016, outono, inverno, primavera e verão de 2017 e outono de 2018. E, as soluções conservantes foram: água destilada (testemunha); água destilada + sacarose 2%; água destilada + hipoclorito de sódio 2% e água destilada + sacarose 2% + hipoclorito de sódio 2%. As hastes florais foram avaliadas quanto a notas de qualidade, desidratação e absorção das soluções conservantes. Observou-se que as hastes florais de cártamo apresentaram vida de vaso em média de nove dias, com absorção de solução na média de 0,021 mL dia−1 g−1 de massa fresca e que o uso dos conservantes não foi benéfico à conservação em pós-colheita.

Abstract The conservation of the cut flower stems aims to prolong durability, maintain the quality and reduce the losses after harvest, providing a greater period of lifespan and commercialization. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the quality and durability in post-harvest of fresh safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) flower stems harvested in different times and submitted to different preservative solutions. The experiment was conducted in entirely randomized design and, organized in 4x8 (four preservative solutions and eight harvest seasons) factorial scheme, with four repetitions, and each experimental unit consisting of five floral stems. The cultivation of floral stems of safflower occurred at Floriculture Sector and the harvest seasons of them were carried out in the beginning of flowering from the sowing performed in the first seasonal half: in winter, spring and summer of 2016, autumn, winter, spring and summer of 2017 and autumn of 2018. And, the preservative solutions were: distilled water (control); distilled water + sucrose 2%; distilled water + sodium hypochlorite 2% and distilled water + sucrose 2% + sodium hypochlorite 2%. The floral stems were evaluated in relation to quality notes, dehydration and absorption of preservative solutions. We observed that the floral stems of safflower presented shelf life in average of nine days, with absorption of solution in average of 0.021 mL day−1 g−1 of fresh mass and that the use of preservatives was not beneficial to conservation in post-harvest.

Resumo O objetivo foi avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de celosias armazenadas por diferentes períodos. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com esquema fatorial 2x5 (duas espécies de celosias: Celosia argentea L. e Celosia cristata L.; e cinco lotes de sementes com diferentes períodos de armazenamento: 0, 4, 8, 12 e 16 anos, a partir da data de colheita), com quatro repetições. Depois de colhido cada lote de sementes, em seus respectivos anos, foram armazenados com grau de umidade médio de 11% e germinação média de 98%, em embalagens de papel Kraft na câmera fria (15 °C e 40% UR). Observou-se que o vigor (primeira contagem de germinação) médio das sementes das duas espécies de celosias foi de 88%, e a germinação de plântulas normais média foi de 89 e 96% para as espécies de C. argentea e C. cristata, respectivamente, com tempo médio de germinação de 2,9 dias para todos os períodos de armazenamento. A frequência relativa demonstrou homogeneidade na germinação das duas espécies de celosias mantendo a viabilidade germinativa em todos os períodos de armazenamento. Conclui-se que o potencial fisiológico e a qualidade sanitária das sementes das celosias C. argentea e C. cristata foram preservados por períodos que variaram de zero a dezesseis anos de armazenamento.

Abstract The objective was to evaluate the physiological and sanitary quality of cockscomb seeds stored for different periods. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, with a 2x5 factorial scheme (two species of cockscomb: Celosia argentea L. and Celosia cristata L., and five seed lots with different storage periods: 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16 years, from the date of harvest) with four replicates. After harvesting each batch of seeds, in their respective years, they were stored with an average moisture content of 11% and average germination of 98% in cold chamber in packages of Kraft paper (15 °C and 40% RH). It was observed that the average vigor (first count of germination) of the seeds of the two species of cockscomb was 88%, and the average germination of normal seedlings was 89 and 96% for the C. argentea and C. cristata species, respectively, with mean germination of 2.9 days for all storage periods. The relative frequency demonstrated homogeneity in the germination of the two species of cockscomb maintaining germinative viability in all periods of storage. It is concluded that the physiological potential and sanitary quality of the seeds of the C. argentea and C. cristata were preserved for periods ranging from zero to sixteen years of storage.

RESUMO A germinação é o resultado do desencadeamento de vários processos ocorridos na semente, os quais são influenciados pelas condições ambientais, sobretudo, luz e temperatura. Deste modo, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a influência de diferentes temperaturas e fotoblastismo na germinação de sementes de celosias. O experimento foi realizado em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com esquema fatorial 2 × 5 (dois regimes de iluminação e cinco temperaturas), com quatro repetições de 50 sementes, para duas espécies de celosias (Celosia argentea L. e C. cristata L.). Os regimes de iluminação foram com a ausência (escuro contínuo) e a presença de luz (fotoperíodo de 24 h), e as temperaturas foram constantes a 15, 20, 25, 30 e 35 °C. Os lotes de sementes das duas espécies de celosias foram cultivados, no ano de 2012 e, foram armazenados em câmera fria (15 °C e 40% UR), com grau de umidade médio de 11% e germinação média de 98%. Os resultados dos testes laboratoriais indicaram que as duas espécies de celosias apresentaram germinação rápida em média 2,5 e 4,5 dias para os regimes com presença e com ausência de iluminação, respectivamente, caracterizando-se como espécies fotoblástiscas neutras. Contudo, observou-se que a temperatura é um fator limitante para a germinação das duas espécies de celosias, tendo sua faixa térmica ótima entre 20 a 30 °C.

ABSTRACT Germination is the result of the triggering of various processes occurred in the seed, which are influenced by the environmental conditions, especially light and temperature. In this way, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of different temperatures and photoblastic on the germination of cockscomb seeds. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, with a 2 × 5 factorial scheme (two lighting regimes and five temperatures), with four replicates of 50 seeds, for two species of cockscomb (Celosia argentea L. and C. cristata L.). The lighting regimes were with absence (dark continuous) and the presence of light (photoperiod of 24 h), and temperatures were constant at 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C. The seed lots of the two species of cockscomb were cultivated in 2012 and stored in a cold chamber (15 °C and 40% RH), with an average moisture content of 11% and a mean germination of 98%. The results of the laboratory tests indicated that the two species of cockscomb presented fast germination in average 2.5 and 4.5 days for the regimes with presence and absence of illumination, respectively, characterizing as neutral photoblastic species. However, it was observed that the temperature is a limiting factor for the germination of the two species of cockscomb, having its optimal thermal range between 20 and 30 °C

RESUMO Celosia argentea L. e Celosia cristata L. são plantas que se diferenciam pela intensidade e coloração de seu florescimento, podendo ser utilizadas como forração-de-jardim ou flor-de-corte, com propagação característica por sementes produzidas em grande quantidade. O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de Celosia argentea e Celosia cristata submetidas ao teste de envelhecimento acelerado. O experimento foi realizado em outubro de 2016, utilizando delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 × 6 (duas temperaturas: 41 e 45 °C e seis períodos de exposição ao calor: 0 (controle), 24, 48, 72, 96 e 120 h), com quatro repetições de 50 sementes, para as duas espécies de celosia (C. argentea e C. cristata). Os lotes de sementes das duas espécies de celosias são oriundos dos cultivos, no ano de 2012 e, foram armazenados em câmera fria (15 °C e 40% UR), com grau de umidade médio de 11% e germinação média de 98%. Após a realização do teste de envelhecimento acelerado foi avaliada a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária das sementes das duas espécies de celosias. Conclui-se que o envelhecimento acelerado demonstrou ser eficiente para avaliação do vigor, de germinação e emergência no campo destas espécies, quando submetidas a temperaturas de 41 e 45 °C por até 120 h.

ABSTRACT Celosia argentea L. and Celosia cristata L. are plants that are differentiated by the intensity and color of their flowering, and can be used as garden or cut-flower, with characteristic propagation by seeds produced in large quantities. The present study aimed to evaluate the physiological and sanitary quality of Celosia argentea and Celosia cristata seeds subjected to the accelerated aging test. The experiment was carried out in October 2016, using a completely randomized design, in a 2 × 6 factorial scheme (two temperatures: 41 and 45 °C and six periods of heat exposure: 0 (control), 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 h), with four replicates of 50 seeds, for the two species of cockscomb (C. argentea and C. cristata). The seed lots of the two species of celosia are from the crops in the year 2012 and were stored in a cold chamber (15 °C and 40% RH), with an average moisture content of 11% and a mean germination of 98%. After the accelerated aging test, the physiological and sanitary qualities of the seeds of the two species of celosia were evaluated. We conclude that the accelerated aging proved to be effective for the evaluation of vigor, germination and emergence in the species field, when submitted to temperatures of 41 and 45 °C up to 120 h.

RESUMO A eficiência agronômica dos inoculantes fixadores de nitrogênio ou promotores de crescimento é dependente das condições de cultivo das culturas. Um dos fatores que pode influenciar essa resposta é a interação da bactéria presente no inoculante com o tratamento químico das sementes. Dessa forma, o estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a influência da inoculação de sementes de trigo com Azospirillum brasilense e sua interação com o tratamento de sementes na germinação, vigor e crescimento inicial de plantas de trigo de quatro cultivares. Para tal conduziu-se um experimento no Laboratório Didático e de Pesquisa em Sementes do Departamento de Fitotecnia da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em um trifatorial (4x4x2), sendo representado pelas combinações dos fatores cultivar (FUNDACEP Bravo, OR/TBIO Quartzo, TBIO Itaipu e BRS 331), tratamento químico de sementes (1- Inseticida + Fungicida; 2- Inseticida; 3- Fungicida; 4- Testemunha sem tratamento) e inoculação de Azospirillum brasilense (com e sem inoculante). As determinações realizadas foram: emergência em canteiros, primeira contagem do teste de germinação (vigor), germinação, comprimento de plântulas (raiz, parte aérea e total), massa seca (raiz e parte aérea). As respostas aos inoculantes com Azospirillum brasilense estão intimamente relacionadas às cultivares utilizadas no estudo. O tratamento de sementes com fungicida e inseticida apresentou efeito fitotóxico prejudicando o crescimento inicial das plântulas.

ABSTRACT The agronomic efficiency of the nitrogen-fixing inoculants or growth promoters depends on the growing conditions of the crops. One of the factors that may influence this response is the interaction between the bacteria present in the inoculant with the chemical treatment applied to the seeds. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of inoculation of wheat seeds with Azospirillum brasilense and its interaction with seed treatment on germination, vigor and initial growth of wheat plants of four cultivars. So, an experiment was carried out at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Santa Maria-RS. The experimental design was a completely randomized in a three-factorial (4x4x2), represented by the combinations between cultivar (FUNDACEP Bravo, OR/TBIO Quartzo, TBIO Itaipu e BRS 331), chemical treatment (1: Insecticide + Fungicide; 2: Insecticide; 3:Fungicide; 4: Witness without treatment) and Azospirillum brasilense inoculation (with and without inoculant). The determinations which were carried out were the following: emergence in beds, first germination test counting (vigor), germination, seedling length (root, aerial part and total), dry mass (root and aerial part). The responses to inoculants with Azospirillum brasilense are closely related to the cultivars used in the study. The treatment of seeds with fungicide and insecticide presented a phytotoxic effect, damaging the initial growth of the seedlings.

RESUMO O uso do tratamento químico de sementes é uma importante ferramenta na proteção de plântulas e tem contribuído com a elevação da produtividade de arroz (Oryza sativa L.). Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e quantificar a retenção de produtos químicos em sementes de arroz tratadas com inseticida e fungicida recobertas com polímeros. Foram utilizados seis tratamentos de sementes: controle, tratamento fitossanitário e tratamento fitossanitário e recobrimento com os polímeros, Florite 1127®, Resina Sólida GV5®, Polyseed CF® e o VermDynaseed®. A qualidade fisiológica foi avaliada pelo teste de germinação e vigor pelos testes de primeira contagem, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento de parte aérea, comprimento de radícula, massa seca de plântulas e emergência em areia. Para determinar a retenção dos ingredientes ativos metalaxil-M e thiamethoxam, utilizou-se equipamento denominado extrator. O experimento foi organizado no delineamento inteiramente casualizado (DIC) e as médias foram separadas pelo Scott Knott (p≤0,05).O tratamento de sementes com o fungicida e inseticida, recobertos com os polímeros,Florite 1127®, ResinSolid GV5®, Polyseed CF® e o VermDynaseed®, não afetaram a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de arroz. Os polímeros ResinSolid GV5®, Polyseed CF® e o VermDynaseed® foram eficientes na retenção do thiamethoxam junto às sementes de arroz, impedindo que parte do ingrediente ativo do inseticida fosse lixiviado, através das colunas de areia, logo após a precipitação pluvial simulada.

ABSTRACT The use of chemical seed treatment is an important tool in the protection of seedlings and has contributed to the increase of rice yield (Oryza sativa L.). The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality and quantify the retention of chemical products in rice seeds treated with insecticide and fungicide coated with polymers. Six seed treatments were used: control, phytosanitary treatment and phytosanitary treatment and coating with the polymers, Florite 1127®, GV5® Solid Resin, Polyseed CF® and VermDynaseed®. The physiological quality was evaluated by the test of germination and vigor by first count tests, germination speed index, shoot length, radicle length, seedling dry mass and sand emergence. To determine the retention of the active ingredients metalaxyl-M and thiamethoxam, an equipment called extractor was used. The experiment was organized in a completely randomized design (DIC) and the averages were separated by the Scott Knott test (p≤0.05). Seed treatment with the fungicide and insecticide, coated with the polymers, Florite 1127®, Solid Resin GV5®, Polyseed CF® and VermDynaseed®, did not affect the physiological quality of rice seeds. Solid Resin GV5®, Polyseed CF® and VermDynaseed® polymers were efficient at retaining thiamethoxam in the rice seeds, preventing some of the active ingredients of the insecticide from being leached through the sand columns immediately after the simulated pluvial precipitation.

RESUMO O trigo é uma das principais culturas de inverno na região Sul do Brasil e para que a sua produtividade seja maximizada necessita que não haja restrições bióticas ou abióticas que possam afetar seus componentes de rendimento. Dessa forma, objetivou-se com esse trabalho avaliar as alterações provocadas nos componentes do rendimento da cultura de trigo pela aplicação de silício via foliar. O experimento foi conduzido em dois anos agrícolas. No primeiro ano foram avaliadas cinco cultivares de trigo (Quartzo, Campo Real, Horizonte, Ônix e Linhagem Fundacep), e quatro cultivares no segundo ano (Mirante, Campo Real, Horizonte e Quartzo), em ambos os anos foram submetidas a três doses de silício (0, 3 e 6 L de silício ha-1). As aplicações de silício foram realizadas nas fases do afilhamento, alongamento e antese. Os componentes de rendimento avaliados foram o número de plantas, o número de espigas e o número afilhos férteis, matéria seca por planta, massa de hectolítro, número de espiguetas, número de grãos por espiga, massa de cem grãos, produção de grãos e índice de colheita. A maioria dos componentes de rendimento não respondeu a aplicação foliar de silício. Contudo, o índice de colheita (primeiro ano) e o número de afilhos (segundo ano) apresentaram incrementos de suas características com a adição da adubação com silício via foliar. As demais diferenças observadas são atribuídas às variações entre as cultivares de trigo.

ABSTRACT Wheat is a major winter crop in southern Brazil. To maximize its productivity, there should be no biotic or abiotic restrictions that can affect the yield components. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the changes caused in the wheat crop yield components by silicon foliar application. The experiment was conducted in two growing seasons. In the first year, five wheat cultivars (Quartzo, Campo Real, Onix and Fundacep Lineage) were assessed and in the second year four were assessed (Mirante, Campo Real, Horizonte and Quartzo). In both years the crops were subjected to three doses of silicon (0, 3 and 6 L of silicon ha -1). The silicon was applied during the tillering, booting and anthesis stages. The yield components assessed were the number of plants, number of ears, number of fertile tillers, dry matter per plant, hectoliter weight, number of spikelets, number of grains per spike, weight of hundred grains, grain yield and harvest index. Most yield components did not respond to the silicon foliar application. The harvest index (first year) and the number of tillers (second year) however presented a quadratic relationship with the supply of silicon. The remaining differences were attributed to variations among the wheat cultivars.

Resumo: Objetivou-se avaliar métodos de superação da dormência, regimes de luz, variações da temperatura e profundidade de semeadura na qualidade fisiológica de sementes de Echium plantagineum. Para isso, os diásporos (fruto concrescido das sementes) foram submetidos a tratamentos utilizando envelhecimento acelerado, nitrato de potássio e ácido giberélico para a superação da dormência. Utilizou-se um fatorial 7 x 2 para avaliar temperaturas (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 e 35 °C) e regimes de luz (presença ou ausência). Já para profundidade de semeadura (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 e 5 cm) e cobertura de solo (presença ou ausência de palha) utilizou-se um fatorial 6 x 2. Em todos os experimentos foi adotado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de 50 diásporos. As principais avaliações realizadas foram germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e emergência. As sementes apresentam dormência, sendo superada pela imersão dos diásporos em nitrato de potássio e ácido giberélico. A temperatura ideal para a germinação foi 20 °C, apresentando maior germinação na presença de luz, sendo consideradas fotoblásticas positiva preferencial. A maior porcentagem de germinação ocorreu quando os diásporos foram posicionados na superfície do solo, na presença de palha.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate methods of overcoming dormancy, light regimens, temperature and depth of sowing variations in the physiological quality of Echium plantagineum seeds. The diaspores (agglutinated fruits from the seeds) were submitted to treatments using accelerated aging, potassium nitrate and gibberellic acid to overcome dormancy. A 7 x 2 factorial design was used to evaluate the temperatures (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C) and light regimens (presence or absence of light). A 6 x 2 factorial design was used for sowing depth (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 cm) and soil coverage (presence or absence of straw). In all experiments, a completely randomized design with four replicates of 50 diaspores was used. The main evaluations were germination, first germination count, germination speed index and emergence. The seeds showed dormancy, which was overcome by the immersion of the diaspores in potassium nitrate and gibberellic acid. The ideal temperature for germination was 20 °C, showing greater germination in the presence of light, considered as preferentially positively photoblastic. The highest germination percentage occurred when the diaspores were positioned on the soil surface in the presence of straw.

RESUMO O incremento na produtividade de grãos pode ser obtido pela interação entre plantas e microrganismos promotores do crescimento vegetal. Bactérias do gênero Bradyrhizobium spp. são capazes de realizar a fixação do nitrogênio em soja [Glycine max (L.) Merril], enquanto as do gênero Azospirillum spp. induzem a síntese de hormônios vegetais. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a inoculação com Bradyrhizobium e co-inoculação com Bradyrhizobium + Azospirillum brasilense em sementes de soja associado a aplicação de 0, 75 e 150 kg de N ha-1 de ureia aplicada em cobertura no estádio reprodutivo. Três cultivares de soja (BMX Ativa, TEC 6029 e BMX Potência) foram utilizadas nos experimentos em Santa Maria, RS, Brasil, durante dois anos agrícolas (2013/2014 e 2014/2015) e duas épocas de cultivo. Foram avaliadas as características morfológicas, de nodulação e componentes da produtividade. A co-inoculação proporcionou incremento de 240 kg de grãos ha-1 em relação a inoculação convencional. Quando co-inoculadas, as cultivares BMX Ativa, TEC 6029 e BMX Potência acresceram a produtividade de grãos em 6, 4 e 12% respectivamente. A aplicação de 150 kg de N ha-1 acresceu a produtividade em 300 kg de grãos ha-1, com a co-inoculação das cultivares TEC 6029 e BMX Potência, porém, sem retorno econômico. Os cultivares testados quando inoculados somente com Bradyrhizobium não responderam positivamente à aplicação de ureia.

ABSTRACT Increased grain yield can be obtained via an interaction between plants and growth-promoting microorganisms. The Bradyrhizobium spp. are capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen in soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merril], and Azospirillum spp. induce the synthesis of phytohormones. The aim of this study was to evaluate inoculation with Bradyrhizobium and co-inoculation with Bradyrhizobium + Azospirillum brasilense in soybeans in combination with the application a topdressing of 0, 75 or 150 kg of N ha-1 of urea during the reproductive stage. Three soybean cultivars (BMX Ativa, TEC 6029 and BMX Potência), were tested in field experiments in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, during two agricultural years (2013/2014 and 2014/2015) and two sowing times. Morphological, nodulation and yield components were evaluated. Co-inoculation increased the grain yield by 240 kg ha-1 compared with conventional inoculation. When co-inoculated, cultivars BMX Ativa, TEC 6029 and BMX Potência showed increased grain yields of 6, 4 and 12%, respectively. The application of 150 kg ha-1 of N as a topdressing increased the grain yield by 300 kg ha-1 in the co-inoculated cultivars TEC 6029 and BMX Potência, but without a financial return. When inoculated only with Bradyrhizobium, the cultivars did not respond positively to the application of urea.
