RESUMO O objetivo deste artigo foi quantificar e analisar as alterações ocorridas, entre os anos 1998 e 2012, no valor bruto da produção da pimenta-do-reino no Estado do Pará, bem como as mudanças nos fatores de sua variação: área colhida, produtividade e preço. Para tal, foram utilizadas a taxa geométrica de crescimento, o coeficiente de variação e o modelo “shift-share”. De maneira geral, o valor bruto da produção foi crescente no período estudado, passando por um período inicial de retração, com recuperação do crescimento a partir de 2006. A área colhida e o preço aumentaram no período de 1998 a 2012, enquanto a produtividade da cultura diminuiu. O preço apresentou maior oscilação dentre os fatores estudados e teve o maior impacto no valor bruto de produção. A produtividade se mostrou a mais estável. Aumentos na área colhida e principalmente na produtividade foram considerados de interesse para que a cultura da pimenta-do-reino cresça em valor no mercado.

ABSTRACT The aim of this paper was to quantify and analyze the changes occurred, between the years 1998 to 2012, in the gross value of production of the black pepper in the State of Pará, as well as the changes in the factors of its variation: harvested area, crop yield and price. For the analysis, it was used the geometric rate of growth, the coefficient of variation and the “shift-share” model applied to the culture's data. Overall, the gross value of production increased in the studied period, passing through an initial period of decline, with recovery of growth in 2006. The harvested area and the selling price increased between the period of 1998 to 2012, while the crop yield decreased. The price showed greater oscillation among the studied factors and had the highest impact in the gross value of production. The productivity proved to be more stable. Increases in harvested area and especially in productivity were considered of interest so the culture of black pepper can grow in market value.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a viabilidade econômica da produção de carvão vegetal em sistema fornos-fornalha e fornos do tipo rabo-quente e realizar a simulação de risco de investimento. A análise econômica foi realizada pela determinação de Valor Presente Líquido (VPL), Valor Anual Equivalente (VAE) e Razão Benefício-Custo (B/C). A análise de risco foi realizada pelo método de Monte Carlo. O sistema fornos-fornalha apresentou maior viabilidade econômica. Os indicadores econômicos se mostraram viáveis e a análise de risco indicou probabilidade de os projetos serem inviáveis economicamente de 0,9% e 27,3% para o sistema fornos-fornalha e fornos rabo-quente, respectivamente. Conclui-se que a inclusão da análise de risco nas análises econômicas resulta em maior segurança para inferir sobre os indicadores econômicos.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the economic viability of charcoal production in kilns-furnace system and “rabo-quente” kilns, as well as the investment risk simulation. The economic analysis was performed by determining the following indicators: Net Present Value (NPV), Equivalent Annual Value (EAV) and Benefit - Cost Reason (B/C). The risk analysis was performed by the Monte Carlo method. Economic indicators were viable. Kilns-furnace system evidenced to be more viable economically. Risk analysis indicated that there is probability to economical unviability of evaluated systems, 0.9% and 27.3% for kilns-furnace system and “rabo-quente” kilns, respectively. Inclusion of risk analysis in economic analysis of charcoal production projects results in greater security to infer on economic indicators.

RESUMO As mudanças climáticas, a busca pela sustentabilidade, e as fortes pressões ambientais por alternativas aos tradicionais combustíveis fósseis aumentaram o interesse na pesquisa e utilização de fontes renováveis de energia. Dentre elas se destaca a biomassa do carvão vegetal, advindo de florestas renováveis, amplamente utilizado como termorredutor na indústria siderúrgica em detrimento ao uso do coque de carvão mineral. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar diferentes procedimentos operacionais de análise química imediata de carvão vegetal. Foram comparados sete ensaios para análise química imediata praticados por empresas e laboratórios brasileiros; o ensaio descrito pela NBR 8112; e um ensaio realizado em analisador termogravimétrico (TGA) com os parâmetros presentes na NBR 8112. Houve diferenças significativas nos teores de materiais voláteis epor consequência nos teores de carbono fixo encontrados. As diferenças entre os ensaios e a NBR 8112 tiveram como causas: tempo de queima em excesso, massa da amostra acima ou abaixo do padronizado, ou recipiente inadequado usado para queima. Observou-se que a determinação do teor de materiais voláteis em TGA deve ser realizada com tempo de queima igual a 2 minutos para atingir resultados equivalentes aos do procedimento da NBR 8112. Os valores obtidos para os teores de cinzas foram estatisticamente iguais e a granulometria não influenciou as diferenças entre as médias.

ABSTRACT The climate change, the quest for sustainability and the strong environmental pressures for alternatives to traditional fossil fuels have increased the interest in the search and use of renewable energy sources. Among them stands out the biomass of charcoal coming from renewable forests, widely used as a thermal reductant in the steel industry in the detriment of the use of mineral coal coke. This study aimed to compare different operating procedures of immediate chemical analysis of charcoal. Seven essays to immediate chemical analysis were compared, spread between procedures performed by Brazilian companies and laboratories, the test described by NBR 8112 and one realized with a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) using the parameters of the NBR 8112. There were significant differences in the volatiles matter content and consequently in the fixed carbon contents found. The differences between the procedures and the NBR 8112 were caused by an excess burning time, a mass sample above or below the standard or inappropriate container used for burning. It observed that the TGA appraisal of the volatiles content must be carried out with a burning time equal to 2 minutes to obtain results similar to those of the NBR 8112 norm. Moreover, the ash content values were statistically identical and the particles size did not influence the differences between means.

A aplicação de diferentes técnicas de análise econômica em sistemas agroflorestais é de grande importância para suporte às tomadas de decisões. Assim, testou-se um modelo de equação diferencial como metodologia de análise da viabilidade econômica de um sistema agroflorestal (SAF), observando se havia influência das receitas intermediárias de uma cultura agrícola no período de rotação da cultura arbórea, em dois horizontes de planejamento: um único corte e vários cortes, executando-se a reforma ou a substituição após o corte do alto fuste. Concluiu-se que, para horizonte de planejamento de um corte, variações na receita da cultura agrícola não afetarão a idade ótima de corte. Entretanto, variações na receita agrícola implicarão em variações inversamente proporcionais na idade ótima de corte quando se planeja um horizonte com vários cortes das árvores, ou seja, devido ao lucro com o cultivo agrícola, é economicamente viável antecipar o corte da madeira e realizar a reforma do plantio.

The use of economic analysis techniques on agroforestry systems is important to support decisionmakers. Therefore, we tested a differential equation model to analyze the economic viability of an agroforestry system (AFS). Thus, the objective of the present study was to verify the occurrence of is any influence of the intermediary income in an agricultural crop in the rotation period of the tree crop in two planning scenarios: a single cut and several cut, which provide the renovation or replacement after the cutting of tall trees. We concluded that, for a planning scenario of one cut, variations in crop revenues will not affect the rotation age. However, variations in farm revenue will lead to inversely proportional variations on the rotation age when a planning scenario with several cuts is implemented. In other words, due to the profit from agricultural cultivation, it is economically feasible to anticipate the cutting of wood and carry out the reform of planting.

Neste estudo, os autores buscaram aplicar um modelo consistente, eficiente e biologicamente correto para estimar crescimento e produção do componente arbóreo de sistemas agroflorestais baseados em eucalipto e, através de indicadores econômicos, analisar e avaliar seus produtos. Os sistemas foram compostos por clones híbridos de Eucalyptus spp. em espaçamento de 10 x 4m, integrados com arroz, soja e pasto. O sistema de equações desenvolvido por Clutter (1963) foi usado como ponto de partida para estimar crescimento e produção de madeira de eucalipto. A aplicação do modelo resultou em estimativas precisas tanto para área basal quanto para volume, com coeficiente de determinação ajustado de 0.908 e 0.956 respectivamente. Os critérios econômicos utilizados nas análises foram a taxa interna de retorno (TIR), o valor presente líquido (VPL), o valor anual equivalente (VAE) e razão benefício-custo (B/C) com taxas de desconto de 6, 8, 10 e 12%. Os sistemas agroflorestais foram viáveis economicamente considerando todos os indicadores e taxas de desconto estudadas. Por fim, mudanças na taxa de desconto afetam a rentabilidade dos sistemas, sendo que, quanto menor a taxa, maior o retorno econômico.

Dans cette étude, les auteurs ont cherché à utiliser un modèle cohérent, efficace et biologiquement correct pour estimer la croissance et la production du composant arboricole de systèmes agroforestiers ayant pour base l’eucalyptus, et, à travers des indicateurs économiques, analyser et évaluer ses produits. Les systèmes ont été formés par des clones hybrides d’Eucalyptus spp. avec des écarts de 10 x 4 m, complémentés avec du riz, du soja et du foin. Le système d’équations développé par Clutter (1963) a été utilisé comme point de départ pour estimer la croissance et la production de bois d’eucalyptus. L’application du modèle a abouti à des estimations précises tant pour l’aire de la base que pour le volume, avec un coefficient de détermination ajusté de 0.908 et 0.956, respectivement. Les critères économiques utilisés dans les analyses furent le taux interne de retour (TIR), la valeur liquide présente (VPL), la valeur annuelle équivalente (VAE) et le quotient bénéfice-coût (B/C), avec des taux de réduction de 6, 8, 10 et 12%. Les systèmes de l’agroforesterie ont été économiquement viables eu égard à tous les indicateurs et taux de réduction étudiés. Finalement, des changements dans le taux de réduction affectent la rentabilité des systèmes, étant donné que, plus le taux est bas, plus grand sera le retour économique.

In this study, the authors aimed to apply a consistent, efficient and biologically correct model to estimate growth and yield of the tree component from eucalypt-based agroforestry systems and, through economic indicators, analyze and evaluate its products. The systems were composed by hybrid clones of Eucalyptus spp. in 10 x 4 m spacing, integrated with rice, soybean and pasture. The equation system developed by CLUTTER (1963) was used as the starting point for estimating growth and yield of Eucalyptus wood. The model application resulted in accurate estimates for both basal area and future volume, with adjusted coefficient of determination of 0.908 and 0.956, respectively. The economic criteria used in the analysis were the internal rate of return (IRR), the net present value (NPV), the equivalent annual value (EAV) and the benefit-cost ratio (B/C) with discount rates of 6, 8, 10 and 12 %. The agroforestry systems were economically viable considering all studied indicators and discount rates. Lastly, changes in the discount rate affect the systems profitability, so that the lower the rate, the higher the economic return.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi definir a melhor forma de uso do modelo de Clutter para estimar o crescimento e a produção de clones de eucalipto em sistemas de integração lavoura-pecuária-floresta. Foram utilizados dados de sistemas de integração localizados na região noroeste do Estado de Minas Gerais. Os dados foram originados a partir de 180 parcelas permanentes de inventário florestal contínuo, de 30x40 m, contendo três fileiras de dez árvores, com amostragem casual estratificada de intensidade de uma parcela para cada 10 ha. O número médio de árvores por hectare foi de 242. Foram avaliadas plantas com idades de 20 a 95 meses. As melhores relações funcionais foram obtidas a partir do uso do modelo original de Clutter, com base na significância e nos sinais esperados das estimativas de seus parâmetros. O ajuste do modelo de Clutter deve ser feito na sua forma completa.

The objective of this work was to define the best form of use of the Clutter model, in order to estimate growth and yield of eucalyptus clones in crop-livestock-forest integration systems. Data were collected from integration systems located in the northwest region of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The data were originated from 180 continuous inventory permanent plots of 30x40 m, with three ten-plant rows and stratified random sampling of one plot per 10 ha. The average number of trees per hectare was 242. Plants with ages from 20 to 95 months were evaluated. The best functional relationships were obtained using the original Clutter model, based on the significance and on the expected signs of its estimated parameters. The Clutter model should be adjusted on its unreduced form.

O Brasil figura entre os principais produtores de celulose e papel e a indústria brasileira é mundialmente competitiva no setor. Com interesses voltados para este cenário, aplicou-se neste estudo a equação de gravidade, usada para explicar de maneira empírica fluxos de comércio entre países, com objetivo de analisar a dinâmica da exportação de papel e de celulose pelo Brasil no período de 1997 a 2005. O modelo gravitacional foi adaptado e suas variáveis explicativas foram: PIB do Brasil, PIB do país importador, PIB per capita do país importador e distância entre o importador e o Brasil. Os resultados mostraram que a distância influenciou negativamente as exportações de papel, mas ao contrário do esperado, seu coeficiente associado apresentou valor positivo para a exportação de celulose. O PIB per capta dos países importadores teve contribuição positiva para as exportações de celulose e negativa para as de papel. Tanto o PIB do Brasil, quanto o PIB dos países importadores tiveram seus coeficientes associados apresentando valor positivo, como esperado. Concluiu-se que o modelo obteve êxito na predição dos fluxos bilaterais do comércio das commodities em análise. As exportações, tanto de papel quanto de celulose, foram mais sensíveis a variações no PIB do Brasil do que a variações no PIB, PIB per capita e na distância dos países importadores. A distância influencia negativamente as exportações de papel, mas não as da celulose brasileira.

Brazil is among the leading producers of wood pulp and paper and the Brazilian industry is globally competitive in this segment. With interest toward this scenario, this study applied the gravity equation, used to empirically explain trade flows between countries, to analyze the dynamics of wood pulp and paper exports from Brazil from 1997 to 2005 . The gravity equation was modified and its explanatory variables were: Brazil's GDP, the GDP of the importing country, GDP per capita of the importing country and the distance from the importer country and Brazil. The results showed that distance negatively affected papel exports, but contrary to expectations, its associated coefficient had a positive value for wood pulp export. The GDP per capita of the importing countries positively contributed to wood pulp exports and it negatively contributed to paper exports. Brazil's GDP and the GDP of the importing countries as well had their associated coefficients with a positive value, as expected. It was concluded that the model succeeded in predicting the commercial bilateral flows of the analyzed commodities. Exports of paper and wood pulp as well, were more sensitive to changes in Brazil's GDP than to changes in GDP, GDP per capita and distance from importing countries. The distance negatively influences exports of paper, but not the Brazilian exports of wood pulp.
