Abstract To compare agronomic performance and phenotypic stability among individual soybean lines and a multiline, eight cultivars and a mixture of them were evaluated in six environments in the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 crop seasons. At maturity, grain yield (bg ha-1), lodging score, plant height (cm), and first pod height (cm) were evaluated. In the 2015/2016 season, the grain oil and protein content were also evaluated. The GxE interaction was determined by the ecovalence method. The cultivar V-TOP RR had the highest yield, but it was also the highest contributor to the GxE interaction, while the multiline was one of the most stable. The average yield of the multiline did not differ from the average yield of the lines, i.e., the multiline was stable and high yielding. For the other traits, there were no differences between the averages of lines and the multiline by the confidence interval. The mixture of lines is an efficient strategy to increase phenotypic stability in soybean.

RESUMO O processo de secagem e o armazenamento podem interferir na qualidade das sementes de braquiária humidícola [Urochloa humidicola (Rendle.) Morrone & Zuloago, syn. Brachiaria humidicola (Rendle.) Schweick.]. Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade física, fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de braquiária humidícola cv. Llanero submetidas a superfícies e ambientes de secagem e armazenadas por 1 e 8 meses. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, disposto em esquema fatorial 4 × 2 × 2 + 2, sendo quatro superfícies de secagem (solo, asfalto, concreto e cerâmica), dois ambientes (secagem à sombra e ao sol), dois períodos de armazenamento (1 e 8 meses) e dois tratamentos adicionais com secagem natural em saco de papel em condições de laboratório (controle) e armazenado por 1 ou 8 meses, com quatro repetições. Foram avaliados o teor de água, viabilidade (teste de tetrazólio), condutividade elétrica, germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e a qualidade sanitária das sementes. A secagem ao sol prejudicou a qualidade fisiológica das sementes devido às altas temperaturas (46,8-51,0 ºC) da superfície de secagem; porém, reduziu a incidência de patógenos. A secagem de sementes em sacos de papel à sombra resulta em maior qualidade fisiológica; porém, a qualidade sanitária é comprometida. Todavia, os patógenos presentes nas sementes não inibiram sua viabilidade e vigor. O armazenamento por oito meses reduz a qualidade das sementes.

ABSTRACT The drying process and storage may interfere in the quality of creeping signalgrass seeds [Urochloa humidicola (Rendle.) Morrone & Zuloago, syn. Brachiaria humidicola (Rendle.) Schweick.]. This study aimed to evaluate the physical, physiological and sanitary quality of creeping signalgrass cv. Llanero seeds submitted to drying surfaces and environments and stored for two periods (1 and 8 months). The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design, in a 4 × 2 × 2 + 2 factorial arrangement, with four drying surfaces (soil, asphalt, concrete and ceramic floor), two drying environments (seeds exposed to the sun or shade), two seed storage periods (1 and 8 months) and two additional treatments with drying in paper bags under laboratory conditions (control) and stored for 1 or 8 months, with four replicates. The water content, viability by the tetrazolium test, electrical conductivity, germination rate, germination rate index and seed sanitary quality were measured. Drying at full sun impaired the physiological quality of the seeds due to the high temperatures (46.8-51.0 ºC) of the drying surface; however, reduced the incidence of pathogens. The drying of seeds in paper bags under shade results in a higher physiological quality, but the sanitary quality is compromised. However, the pathogens present in the seeds did not inhibit their viability and vigor. The storage for eight months reduces the seed quality.

RESUMO A adubação nitrogenada pode interferir na qualidade das sementes de soja. Objetivou-se determinar a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de soja, em resposta a doses e épocas de aplicação de nitrogênio (N) associada à inoculação com Bradyrhizobium japonicum. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, disposto em esquema fatorial 2 x 3 x 4 [duas cultivares de soja (BRS 1074 IPRO e ST 797 IPRO), três épocas de aplicação (semeadura, 30 e 50 dias após a emergência) e quatro doses de nitrogênio (0 kg ha-1, 20 kg ha-1, 40 kg ha-1 e 60 kg ha-1)], com quatro repetições. Determinou-se a massa de 1.000 sementes, grau de umidade, germinação, altura de plântula, comprimento da radícula, fitomassa seca total da plântula, emergência, condutividade elétrica, dano mecânico, vigor e viabilidade (teste de tetrazólio) e a qualidade sanitária das sementes. O uso de N mineral, associado à inoculação de bactérias Bradyrhizobium japonicum, não se mostra consistente, quanto aos seus efeitos sobre a qualidade fisiológica das sementes de soja, embora a incidência de patógenos possa ser reduzida.

ABSTRACT Nitrogen fertilization may interfere in the quality of soybean seeds. This study aimed to determine the physiological and sanitary quality of soybean seeds, in response to levels and times of nitrogen (N) application associated with Bradyrhizobium japonicum inoculation. Treatments were arranged in a randomized block design, in a 2 × 3 × 4 factorial arrangement [two soybean cultivars (BRS 1074 IPRO and ST 797 IPRO), three application times (sowing, 30 and 50 days after emergence) and four N levels (0 kg ha-1, 20 kg ha-1, 40 kg ha-1 and 60 kg ha-1), with four replicates. The 1,000-seed mass, moisture content, germination rate, seedling height, shoot length, primary root length, total seedling dry matter, electrical conductivity, mechanical damage, vigor and viability (tetrazolium test) and sanitary quality of the seeds were measured. The use of mineral N, associated with the inoculation of B. japonicum bacteria, does not prove to be consistent, in terms of its effects on the physiological quality of soybean seeds, although the incidence of pathogens may be reduced.

RESUMO O atraso da colheita pode afetar a qualidade fisiológica das sementes de soja, devido à ocorrência de condições adversas no campo. Objetivou-se avaliar as alterações fisiológicas e enzimáticas em sementes de soja submetidas a atraso de colheita. Utilizou-se delineamento em blocos casualizados, com oito épocas de colheita de sementes da cultivar BRS 820 RR® (0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 25; 30; e 35 dias após o estádio fenológico R8 - maturação plena), com quatro repetições. Em cada período de colheita, foram mensurados o grau de umidade, peso de mil sementes, germinação, emergência, índice de velocidade de emergência, envelhecimento acelerado, vigor e viabilidade (teste de tetrazólio), condutividade elétrica, expressão enzimática e produtividade. A produtividade e a massa de mil sementes de soja não são afetadas pelo atraso de colheita até 35 dias após R8. O atraso de colheita, a partir do estádio R8, promove aumento nos danos provocados por percevejos e pela umidade. O retardamento da colheita de sementes a partir de 10 dias após R8 prejudica o vigor das sementes e, a partir de 15 dias, a germinação. Sementes colhidas com retardamento de colheita após R8 apresentam menores expressões dos sistemas isoenzimáticos malato desidrogenase, álcool desidrogenase, esterase, isocitrato liase e superóxido dismutase, principalmente após 15 dias de atraso de colheita.

ABSTRACT Harvest delay may affect the physiological quality of soybean seeds due to the occurrence of unfavorable environmental conditions in the field. This study was conducted to investigate the physiological and enzymatic changes in soybean seeds submitted to harvest delay. A randomized block design, with eight seed harvest periods (0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 25; 30; and 35 days after the R8 phenological stage - full maturity) of the BRS 820 RR® cultivar, with four replicates, was used. At each harvest period, the moisture content, 1,000-seed weight, germination, seedling emergence, emergence speed index, accelerated aging, vigor and viability (tetrazolium test), electrical conductivity, enzymatic expression and seed yield were measured. Harvest delay up to 35 days after the R8 phenological stage do not affect the 1,000-seed weight and seed yield. The delayed harvest from the R8 stage results in increased damage by stink bugs and moisture. The harvest delay of seeds from the 10th day after the R8 stage impairs the seed vigor and, from the 15th day, seed germination. Seeds harvested with a delay after the R8 stage have lower expressions of the following isoenzymatic systems: malate dehydrogenase, alcohol dehydrogenase, esterase, isocitrate lyase and superoxide dismutase, especially after 15 days of harvest delay.

Abstract Genetic diversity is an essential factor for the success of any plant breeding program and should be considered to ensure genetic gain through breeding. In Brazil, research on the genetic diversity and population structure of soybean is required since the species is an important commodity of the country. The study addressed the genetic diversity and population structure of 77 soybean genotypes using 35 SSR markers. The estimate of the diversity index showed that the level of genetic diversity in the soybean collection is low. Similarly, the Jaccard coefficient and Bayesian model based on clustering analysis confirmed the low diversity among soybean genotypes, providing evidence for the assumption of a genetic bottleneck effect on Brazilian soybean genotypes. The results also reinforced the importance of finding and incorporating new genetic resources of soybean in the genetic pool of Brazilian soybean to warrant genetic gain in soybean breeding in the future.

RESUMO O atraso na colheita pode afetar a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de soja, devido à ocorrência de condições adversas no campo. Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de soja (cultivar BRS 820 RR®) colhidas em oito épocas (0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 25; 30; e 35 dias após o estádio fenológico R8 - maturação plena) e armazenadas por dois períodos (0 e 8 meses). Foram efetuadas as seguintes avaliações: grau de umidade, taxa de germinação e emergência, índice de velocidade de emergência, fitomassa seca total da planta, envelhecimento acelerado, condutividade elétrica, dano mecânico, vigor e viabilidade (tetrazólio) e qualidade sanitária das sementes. O retardamento na colheita de sementes de soja a partir de 10 dias após R8 prejudica o vigor e a germinação das sementes, além de aumentar a incidência de patógenos. Independentemente da época de colheita, o armazenamento das sementes de soja por oito meses culminou em redução na sua qualidade fisiológica, com incremento na incidência de Phomopsis spp.

ABSTRACT Delayed harvesting may affect the physiological quality of soybean seeds, due to adverse conditions in the field. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological and sanitary quality of soybean seeds (BRS 820 RR® cultivar) harvested at eight periods (0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 25; 30; and 35 days after the R8 phenological stage - full maturity) and stored for two periods (0 and 8 months). The following evaluations were carried out: moisture content, germination and emergence rate, emergence speed index, total plant dry mass, accelerated aging, electrical conductivity, mechanical damage, vigor and viability (tetrazolium) and sanitary quality of the seeds. The delayed harvesting of soybean seeds from 10 days after R8 impairs seed vigor and germination, in addition to increase the incidence of pathogens. Regardless of the harvesting period, the soybean seeds stored for eight months showed a reduction in their physiological quality, with an increase in the incidence of Phomopsis spp.

O potássio é o segundo nutriente mais exportado pela cultura da soja. Dessa forma, sua disponibilidade no solo pode influenciar tanto o rendimento da cultura, como a qualidade e composição química das sementes de soja. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da adubação potássica sobre caracteres agronómicos, teor de óleo e qualidade sanitária de sementes de soja. Os ensaios decorreram no ano agrícola 2012/13 em dois locais distintos no Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. O delineamento experimental constou de um esquema em blocos casualizado, com três repetições, e tratamentos dispostos em esquema fatorial 4 x 6, com quatro cultivares (TMG 127 RR, TMG 1179 RR, BRSMG 850G RR, NA7255 RR) e seis doses de potássio (0, 40, 80, 120, 160 e 200 kg.ha-1). Foram avaliados o rendimento, altura de plantas, inserção de primeira vagem, acama de plantas, teor de óleo e a sanidade de sementes. O aumento nas doses de potássio alterou a composição química das sementes e incrementou significativamente o teor de óleo; no entanto, não houve efeito para os caracteres agronómicos e o rendimento de grãos. Os níveis de patógenos nas sementes aumentaram à medida que se diminui o fornecimento de potássio para as plantas.

Potassium is the second most exported nutrient for soybean. Thus, their availability in the soil can influence both crop yield, the quality and chemical composition of soybean seeds. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of potassium fertilization on agronomic traits, oil content and sanitary quality of soybean seeds. The trials took place in the agricultural year 2012/13 in two separate locations in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The experimental design consisted of a randomized block design, with three replications, and treatments arranged in a factorial scheme 4 x 6, with four cultivars (TMG 127 RR, TMG 1179 RR, BRSMG 850G RR, NA7255 RR) and six doses potassium (0, 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 kg ha-1). They evaluated the yield, plant height, first pod insertion, plants lodging, oil content and seed health. The increase in potassium levels altered the chemical composition of seeds and increased significantly oil content; however, there was no effect on the agronomic characteristics and grain yield. The contents of the seed pathogens increase as it decreases the potassium supply to the plants.

RESUMO: A densidade de plantas no cultivo de soja é uma prática de manejo relevante para o alcance de alta produtividade de grãos. Dessa forma, objetivou-se avaliar os caracteres agronômicos e produtividade dos grãos na soja em diferentes densidades de plantas. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, dispostos em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com três repetições. As parcelas foram compostas por quatro densidades populacionais (300, 400, 500 e 600 mil plantas por hectare) e, as subparcelas foram compostas por seis cultivares (‘BMX Força RR’, ‘CD 250 RR’, ‘FMT 08 - 60.346/1’, ‘NA 5909 RR’, ‘TMG 7161 RR’ e ‘V - TOP RR’) cultivados em Lavras e Incofidentes, ambos em Minas Gerais. Na ocasião da colheita determinou-se a altura de plantas, o acamamento, a inserção do primeiro legume, o índice de colheita, o número de vagens por planta, o número de grãos, o número de grãos por vagem e a produtividade. Independentemente da cultivar de soja, a densidade de plantas de até 600.000 por ha, não afeta o rendimento de grãos, altura da planta, acamamento, índice de colheita e número de grãos por vagem. As cultivares ‘V-TOP RR’ e ‘BMX FORÇA RR’ apresentaram alto rendimento de grãos e boas características agronômicas em Lavras e Incofidentes.

ABSTRACT: Plants density in soybean cultivation is an important management practice to achieve high grain yield. In this way, the objective was to evaluate the agronomic traits and grain yield in soybean in different plant densities, in two locations in the south of Minas Gerais. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, arranged in a split plot design, with three replications. Plots were composed of four population densities (300, 400, 500 and 600 thousand plants per hectare) and the subplots were composed of six cultivars (‘BMX Força RR’, ‘CD 250 RR’, ‘FMT 08 - 60.346/1’, ‘NA 5909 RR’, ‘TMG 7161 RR’ and ‘V - TOP RR’) grown in Lavras and Inconfidentes, both in Minas Gerais. At the time of harvest was determined the plant height, lodging, insertion of the first pod, harvest index, number of pods per plant, number of grains, number of grains per pod and yield. Regardless of the soybean cultivar, the plant density of up to 600,000 per ha does not affect grain yield, plant height, lodging, harvest index, and number of grains per pod. The cultivars ‘V-TOP RR’ and ‘BMX FORÇA RR’ showed high grain yield and good agronomic traits in Lavras and Incofidentes.

Na cultura do milho uma das principais pragas é a lagarta-da-espiga, e seu controle é dificultado devido ao hábito de esta espécie se alojar dentro da espiga. O controle microbiano de insetos com Beauveria bassiana constitui uma estratégia viável para minimizar os estragos, associando ao manejo integrado de pragas. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a patogenicidade de B. bassiana no controle in-vitro da lagarta-da-espiga do milho (Helicoverpa zea). O experimento foi realizado em laboratório, disposto em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, constituído por três tratamentos, duas concentrações, 1x10(8) e 5x10(6) conídios ml-1, de B. bassiana, e a testemunha (H2O), contendo 20 repetições cada tratamento. Foram avaliadas a patogenicidade (%) de B. bassiana em diferentes concentrações e o tempo médio (dias) para a mortalidade das lagartas (H. zea). Para o controle da lagarta-da-espiga do milho no tratamento constituído pela concentração 1x10(8) conídios ml-1 obteve-se 100% de mortalidade dos insetos em quatro dias. Conclui-se que B. bassiana foi eficiente para causar mortalidade in-vitro da lagarta-da-espiga do milho (H. zea).

In corn one of the main pests is the corn earworm, and its control is difficult due to the habit of staying within the spike. Microbial control of insects with Beauveria bassiana is a viable strategy to minimize damage by linking to integrated pest management. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pathogenicity of B. bassiana to control in-vitro corn cob borer (Helicoverpa zea). The experiment was conducted in laboratory arranged in a randomized design, consisting of three treatments, two concentrations 1x10(8) and 5x10(6) conidia ml-1 of B. bassiana and a control (H2O), with 20 repetitions each treatment. Pathogenicity were evaluated (%) of B. bassiana at different concentrations and the time (in days) for mortality of caterpillars (H. zea). For the control of the corn cob caterpillar treatment consisting of the concentration 1x10(8) conidia mL-1 had 100% mortality of insects in four days. We conclude that B. bassiana has been effective in causing mortality in vitro maize cob caterpillar (H. zea).
