ABSTRACT Salt stress affects the development of several crops, being one of the limiting factors for irrigated agriculture in the semiarid region, where nitrogen and potassium fertilization can be an alternative for agricultural production. This study aimed to evaluate the viability of using water with different salinities associated with varying amounts of nitrogen and potassium fertilization in the production of seedlings of the guava cultivar Paluma in an experiment conducted in experimental areas of the Federal Rural University of the Semi-arid Region (UFERSA), campus of Caraúbas. The research was carried out from February to June 2021. The study was set up in a randomized block design and analyzed in a 5 × 4 factorial scheme with four replicates, and two plants per plot. Treatments were established by combining different levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water (ECw): 0.3, 1.1, 1.9, 2.7, and 3.5 dS m-1, with Combinations (C) of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K2O) levels of recommended fertilization: C1 = 70% N + 50% K2O, C2 = 100% N + 75% K2O, C3 = 130% N + 100% K2O, and C4 = 160% N + 125% K2O. Irrigation with electrical conductivity levels up to 2.1 dS m-1 favored seedling growth for the guava cv. Paluma. Fertilization combinations C1 and C2 promoted the greatest increases in growth and biomass for guava seedlings cv. Paluma 125 days after sowing. Fertilizer combinations did not mitigate the harmful effects of salt stress from irrigation water on the production of young guava cv. Paluma.

RESUMO O estresse salino afeta o desenvolvimento de diversas culturas, sendo um dos fatores limitantes para a agricultura irrigada no semiárido, onde a adubação nitrogenada e potássica pode ser uma alternativa para a produção agrícola da região. Com esse trabalho objetivou-se avaliar a viabilidade do uso de água com diferentes salinidades associada a diferentes adubações nitrogenadas e potássicas na produção de mudas da goiabeira cultivar Paluma. O experimento foi conduzido em áreas experimentais da Universidade Federal Rural do Semiárido (UFERSA), Campus Caraúbas. A pesquisa foi realizada no período de fevereiro a junho de 2021. O estudo foi montado em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições e duas plantas por parcela. Foi utilizado um esquema fatorial 5 × 4, que combinou cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (CEa): 0,3, 1,1, 1,9, 2,7 e 3,5 dS m-1, com combinações (C) de nitrogênio (N) e níveis de potássio (K2O) de adubação recomendada: C1 = 70% N + 50% K2O, C2 = 100% N + 75% K2O, C3= 130% N + 100% K2O e C4= 160% N + 125% K2O. Irrigação com níveis de condutividade elétrica até 2,1 dS m-1 favoreceu o crescimento das mudas da goiabeira cv. Paluma. As adubações C1 e C2 promoveram os maiores incrementos de crescimento e fitomassa para a goiabeira cv. Paluma aos 125 dias após a semeadura. As combinações de adubação não mitigaram os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino da água de irrigação sobre a produção de mudas de goiabeira cv. Paluma.

RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar conhecimento, atitude e prática sobre Síndrome Hipertensiva Gestacional entre gestantes, após intervenção educativa. Método: ensaio clínico controlado, randomizado e longitudinal, relacionado ao inquérito Conhecimento, Atitude e Prática sobre complicações da Síndrome Hipertensiva Gestacional, realizado em maternidade pública de Fortaleza-CE, Brasil, com 120 gestantes. A coleta de dados foi realizada em três momentos e as gestantes separadas em dois grupos com 60 participantes cada. Para comparações quantitativas, aplicou-se o teste t de Student ou Mann-Whitney. Para estudar associações qualitativas, empregou-se o teste Qui-quadrado ou exato de Fisher. Resultados: identificou-se avaliação adequada do conhecimento, da atitude e prática no grupo intervenção, no sétimo e trigésimo dia pós-intervenção (p<0,05), com aumento de chance para o conhecimento adequado no sétimo (Odds Ratio=6,63 - Intervalo de Confiança: 3,5-12,55) e no trigésimo dia (Odds Ratio=6,25 - Intervalo de Confiança: 3,13 - 12,50). Neste grupo, a atitude foi adequada no sétimo (Odds Ratio= 6,11 - Intervalo de Confiança: 3,28-11,39) e no trigésimo dia (Odds Ratio=6,44 - Intervalo de Confiança: 3,49-11,89). Prática também adequada no sétimo (Odds Ratio=3,73 - Intervalo de Confiança: 2,21-6,28) e trigésimo dia (Odds Ratio=4,91 - Intervalo de Confiança: 2,90-8,32). Conclusão: as gestantes que participaram da intervenção educativa apresentaram mais adequabilidade em relação ao conhecimento, à atitude e prática, quando comparadas às participantes do grupo controle. En este grupo, la actitud fue adecuada al día siete (Odds Ratio=6,11 - Intervalo de Confianza: 3,28 -11,39) y al día treinta (Odds Ratio=6,44 - Intervalo de Confianza: 3,49-11,89). Abstract Several phytogeographic regions (Cerrado, Pantanal, Atlantic Forest, Gran Chaco, and Chiquitano Dry Forests) converge in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and influence regional biodiversity. Despite a list of birds in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul being published by Nunes et al. (2017), it is necessary to update and critically review avifauna records. In this study, we gathered the results of several records obtained from species lists and online data platforms of the 336 sites in this state over the last decades and grouped them into Main (Primary and Secondary) and Tertiary Lists. The avifauna of Mato Grosso do Sul is composed of 678 species, of which 643 (95%) have records proving their occurrence (Primary List), whereas 34 still lack documentation (Secondary List). The number of related species for Mato Grosso do Sul represents 34% of the Brazilian avifauna. Some species stand out for their unique occurrence in Mato Grosso do Sul, such as Melanerpes cactorum, Celeus lugubris, Phaethornis subochraceus, and Cantorchilus guarayanus, reflecting the influence of different phytogeographic regions of the Chaco and Chiquitano Dry Forests. Migrants represent 20% of the bird community occurring in the state, of which 93 species correspond to migrants from various regions of South America (south and west) and 40 to boreal migrants. Thirty-three species perform nomadic movements across the Pantanal Plain and other regions of the state. Thirty-one species are included in some conservation-threatened categories of global and/or national endangered species lists. Other 30 species are included in the near-threatened category at the global level and 23 at the national level. In addition, species typical of dry forests (in Serra da Bodoquena and Maciço do Urucum) and those from the Atlantic Forest in the south of the state deserve attention due to their restricted distribution and the high anthropogenic pressure on their habitat.

Resumo As características que qualificam a identidade curda são reconhecidas entre seus membros há muito tempo, mas a capacidade de constituir grupos politicamente organizados entre essa população variou ao longo da história. Para compreender a complexidade da questão curda no Oriente Médio, é preciso analisar a forma pela qual eles se organizam politicamente, levando em consideração suas ideologias, particularidades do Estado em que se encontram, e, principalmente, as tensões políticas e disputas internas de seus movimentos. Além disso, é fundamental inserir a reivindicação de autonomia dos curdos no contexto da evolução da guerra civil na Síria de modo mais amplo, por ser esse um dos principais motivos do crescente envolvimento da Turquia e das grandes potências na região.

Abstract The characteristics that qualify the Kurdish identity have long been recognized among its members, but the ability to form politically organized groups among them has varied throughout history. In order to understand the complexity of the Kurdish question in the Middle East, it is necessary to analyze the way in which they organize themselves politically, taking into account their ideologies, particularities of the State in which they find themselves, and, most of all, the political tensions and internal disputes of their movements. In addition to that, it is essential to insert Kurds’ claim on autonomy in the context of the evolution of the civil war in Syria in a broader sense, as this is one of the main reasons for the growing involvement of Turkey and the great powers in the region.

RESUMO: Reflexão sobre a desagregação da chamada Idade de Ouro do pós-guerra, a emergência da globalização e suas implicações para a constituição das identidades sociais e a formulação das políticas públicas. Ao final, especula-se sobre a erosão das bases sociais dos agrupamentos políticos reformistas. Um dos efeitos deletérios dessa dissonância pode ser até mesmo a derrocada do Estado de Bem-Estar Social e da própria democracia representativa.

ABSTRACT: Thoughts on the breakdown of the so-called postwar Golden age, the emergence of globalization and its rise for the making of social identities and a declaration of public policies. In the end, it is specific about the erosion of the social bases of reformist political parties. One of the following goals is: dissonance can even be a concept of social welfare and representative democracy.

RESUMEN: Reflexión acerca de la ruptura de la llamada Edad de oro de la posguerra, la aparición de la globalización y su ascenso a la identificación de identidades sociales y una declaración de votos públicos. Al final, se especula sobre la erosión de las bases sociales de las agrupaciones políticas reformistas. Uno de los objetivos es: la disonancia puede ser incluso un concepto de bienestar social y de la democracia.

Abstract AIMS The present study aimed to investigate the effects of whole body isometric resistance training (IRT) on blood pressure (BP), strength and aerobic fitness. We also analyzed whether the effects of whole body isometric training compares to whole body dynamic resistance training (DRT). METHODS Twenty-nine pre-hypertensive sedentary males, aged between 40 and 60 years were divided into three groups: IRT (n = 10), DRT (n = 9), and Control (n = 10). Both programs involved whole body resistance training, and occurred for 12 weeks, three times/week, at an intensity of 60% of a dynamic one repetition maximum test (1RM). Before and after 12 weeks, 24 hours blood pressure monitoring, 1RM strength and aerobic fitness were assessed. RESULTS IRT reduced diastolic BP values during a 24-hour period and daytime. There was also a decrease in mean BP values during daytime (P<0.05). No interaction between time and group in systolic BP, diastolic BP, mean BP, heart rate and arterial stiffness index were observed (P>0.05). IRT increased strength and aerobic fitness when compared to Control group. However, these changes were lower than DRT regarding strength (DRT: ∆ = 43.1±10.6% vs. IRT: ∆ = 24.1±7.1% vs. CON: Δ = 4.2±11.5%; P<0.05) and aerobic fitness (DRT: ∆ = 22.9±10.7% vs. IRT: ∆ = 12.9±6.1% vs. CON: Δ = -2.1±7.4%; P<0.01). CONCLUSION Whole body IRT reduced diastolic BP and mean BP, however, the decrease was not different for the DRT group. IRT also increased strength and aerobic fitness, nevertheless, these changes were lower than after DRT.

RESUMO Altas pressões de contato aplicadas ao solo resultam em um maior grau de compactação deste, além de promover outros efeitos maléficos. O objetivo deste estudo foi quantificar as áreas e pressões de contato de conjuntos motomecanizados empregados na atividade sucroalcooleira e avaliar as alterações estruturais proporcionadas em um Latossolo Vermelho com e sem cobertura de resíduos vegetais (palha). O delineamento empregado foi o inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial do tipo 4 (pneu acoplado no eixo dianteiro, pneu acoplado no eixo traseiro, pneu acoplado a um transbordo agrícola canavieiro e esteira metálica de colhedora de cana de açúcar) x 2 (com e sem palha na superfície). A área de contato (CA) dos rodados foi obtida por três procedimentos: medida analítica da área de uma elipse (CA1); medida digital da área de uma elipse (CA2); e medida da área de contato real (RCA), com recursos digitais. A pressão de contato foi calculada a partir da relação da massa dos eixos de cada conjunto motomecanizado e a respectiva área de contato do rodado. A área de contato obtida de acordo com o procedimento da elipse (CA1 e CA2) é superestimada quando comparada área real, obtida digitalmente (RCA). Os resíduos vegetais diminuem a pressão de contato na interface rodado-solo, devido ao maior aprofundamento das garras do rodado e por consequência, aumento da área de contato. Áreas onde o tráfego das máquinas ocorreu com solo coberto de palha apresentaram menor resistência do solo à penetração, índice de cone e pressão de pré-consolidação, confirmando que o aumento da área de contato produzida pela palha reduziu a pressão aplicada e dissipou a energia de compactação no solo.

ABSTRACT High contact pressures applied to soil result in a greater degree of compaction, in addition to promoting other negative effects. The objective of this study was to quantify contact areas by using different methodologies, and pressures of farm equipment employed in production activity and evaluate structural changes caused in a Red Latosol with the presence and absence of straw cover. The design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme of type 4 (tire on front axle, tire on rear axle, tire on a sugarcane wagon and metallic track of sugar cane Harvester) x 2 (presence and absence of straw). The contact area (CA) of the run was obtained by three procedures: analytical measure of the area of an ellipse (CA1); digital measurement of area of an ellipse (CA2); and measurement of real contact area (RCA), with digital resources. The contact pressure was calculated from the ratio of mass of each machine's axle and the contact area of the run. The contact area obtained according to the procedure of the ellipse (CA1 and CA2) is overrated when compared to actual area obtained digitally (RCA). The straw reduces the contact pressure in the soil, due to the deep tire treads and consequently, increased contact area. Areas where the traffic of the machines occurred with soil covered with the presence of straw showed reduced soil resistance to penetration, cone index and pre-consolidation pressure, confirming that the increased contact area produced by straw reduced the pressure applied and the compression power dissipated in the soil.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a variação genética e a seleção das melhores progênies de Myracrodruon urundeuva, Astronium fraxinifolium e Terminalia argentea, quanto aos caracteres de crescimento, em Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul. O teste de progênie foi instalado utilizando o delineamento de blocos ao acaso com 28 tratamentos, quatro repetições e dez plantas por parcela em linhas simples, no espaçamento 1,5 x 3,0 m. Aos 14 anos de idade, as progênies foram avaliadas quantos aos caracteres: altura (ALT); diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP); diâmetro médio da copa (DMC); forma do tronco (FT, escala de notas, variando de 1 a 5) e sobrevivência (SOB). Foram encontradas altas herdabilidades entre médias de progênies para os caracteres DAP (0,67), DMC (0,57) e forma do tronco (0,83), respectivamente. O ganho predito para DAP indica que a seleção baseada em informações, tanto de progênies, quanto de indivíduos dentro de progênies foram substanciais, o que denota uma boa perspectiva de exploração da variabilidade genética ao longo de um programa de melhoramento genético para as espécies estudadas, assim como o estabelecimento de estratégias para futura formação de um pomar de sementes.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed at evaluating genetically the best progenies ofMyracrodruon urundeuva, Astronium fraxinifolium e Terminalia argentea from Selvíria, MS, concerning their growing traits. The progeny test was performed by outlining randomized blocks with 28 treatments, 4 repetitions and 10 plants per plot in single rows at 1.5 x 3.0 spacing. At 14 years of age, the progenies were evaluated concerning the traits: height (ALT, m); diameter of the height (DAP, cm); average diameter of the top (DMC, cm); trunk shape (FT), grade scale, ranging from 1 to 5, and survival (SOB, %). The average herdability for the traits studied is considered from medium to highs magnitudes (0.67; 0.57 e 0.83) for DAP, DMC e trunk shape, respectively. More expressive outcomes were obtained from the average of progenies (9.42; 9.40 e 12.83) for DAP, respectively, which indicates that the selection can be effective using such information, not only from the families but also from the individuals for native progenies from the region which indicates a good perspective of genetic variability to be exploited along a genetic breeding program for the studied species and the establishment of strategies for future formation of a seed orchard.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a capacidade de suporte de carga (CSC) de Latossolo Vermelho e, por meio de modelos de compressibilidade, relacioná-la às interações rodado-solo em sistema de manejo com um e três ciclos de cultivo de cana-de-açúcar, com colheita mecanizada. As avaliações da CSC foram realizadas em amostras de solo indeformadas, coletadas na linha de plantio e no canteiro, em quatro camadas: 0,00-0,10, 0,10-0,20, 0,20-0,30 e 0,30-0,40 m. Determinou-se a área de contato dos rodados com o solo, para a estimativa da pressão exercida pelas máquinas agrícolas no solo. As pressões de preconsolidação foram usadas para determinar a CSC. O sistema com três ciclos apresentou maior CSC do que o sistema com apenas um ciclo. A capacidade de suporte de carga do solo avaliado na faixa de friabilidade é maior que as pressões de contato aplicadas ao solo pelos rodados das máquinas agrícolas estudadas.

The objective of this work was to determine the load support capacity (LSC) of an Oxisol and, through compressibility models, relate it to wheel-soil interactions under management systems with one and three sugarcane crop cycles, with mechanized harvest. LSC evaluations were carried out on undisturbed soil samples, collected at planting row and bed, in four layers: 0.00-0.10, 0.10-0.20, 0.20-0.30, and 0.30-0.40 m. The contact area between wheels and soil was determined in order to estimate the contact pressure by agricultural machinery on the soil. Pre-consolidation pressures were used to determine LSC. The system with three cycles showed higher LSC than the system with only one cycle. The load support capacity of the soil evaluated in the range of friability is greater than the contact pressures applied to the soil by the wheels of the studied agricultural machines.

O artigo reflete sobre os termos em que devemos colocar a análise da conexão entre as relações sociais estabelecidas e as políticas públicas de educação. O ponto de partida e referência empírica é o processo de expansão do ensino superior no século XX, com foco em três países: Estados Unidos, Alemanha e França. Começamos por examinar como e por quê a expansão desse nível de ensino superior tem diferentes motivações e desenhos em diferentes países e situações históricas. Em especial, procura-se mostrar como a forma adquirida pelas relações sociais e o desenho do estado modelam as opções dos formuladores de políticas, tanto quanto as demandas de seus beneficiários. Desse modo, o leitor pode confrontar os diferentes modos de inclusão e de exclusão que estes países adotam. Em especial, a comparação entre o caso norte-americano e a Europa ocidental permite ver como o modelo de sociedade interfere no desenho das políticas educativas, um tema que aqui apenas se sugere, uma vez que demanda investigação mais demorada.

The article theoretical issue is the connection between the social relationships and educational policies. The starting point and empirical reference is the process of expansion of higher education in the twentieth century, with a focus on three countries: United States, Germany and France. We start by examining how and why the expansion of higher education has different motivations and designs in different countries and historical situations. In particular, we try to show how the social relationships and the state structures circumscribe the options of policymakers, as well as the demands of their beneficiaries. So, we can compare the different modes of inclusion and exclusion that these countries adopt. In particular, the comparison between U.S.A. and Western Europe lets us see how the model of society interferes in the design of educational policies, an issue that we only suggest, since it demands further research.

RÉSUMÉ L'article porte sur les conditions dans lesquelles nous devons analyser le rapport entre les relations sociales et les politiques publiques pour l'éducation. Le point de départ et de référence empirique est le processus d'expansion de l'enseignement supérieur au XXe siècle, en mettant l'accent sur trois pays: Etats-Unis, Allemagne et France. Nous commençons par examiner, a travers ce processus, les différentes motivations et modèles dans différents pays et situations historiques. En particulier, nous procurons démontrer comment la forme acquise par les relations sociales et de la conception de l'état modèle les choix des responsables des politiques, ainsi que les exigences de leurs bénéficiaires. The search for efficiency in the cooperative credit sector has led cooperatives to adopt new technology and managerial knowhow. Among the tools that facilitate efficiency, data mining has stood out in recent years as a sophisticated methodology to search for knowledge that is “hidden” in organizations' databases. The process of granting credit is one of the central functions of a credit union; therefore, the use of instruments that support that process is desirable and may become a key factor in credit management. The steps undertaken by the present case study to perform the knowledge discovery process were data selection, data pre-processing and cleanup, data transformation, data mining, and the interpretation and evaluation of results. The results were evaluated through cross-validation of ten sets, repeated in ten simulations. The goal of this study is to develop models to analyze the capacity of a credit union's members to settle their commitments, using a decision tree—C4.5 algorithm and an artificial neural network—multilayer perceptron algorithm. It is concluded that for the problem at hand, the models have statistically similar results and may aid in a cooperative's decision-making process.

A ferrugem do eucalipto, causada pelo fungo Puccinia psidii Winter, é uma das doenças mais importantes para a eucaliptocultura. O patógeno causa doença principalmente em folhas, hastes e em brotações jovens, sob condições de molhamento foliar noturno acima de 6 horas, por 5 a 7 dias consecutivos, e temperatura na faixa de 18 a 25 ºC, sendo ótimo 23 ºC. Considerando a influência das condições climáticas no ciclo de vida do patógeno, o plantio de eucalipto em épocas e em locais desfavoráveis à ocorrência e desenvolvimento do patógeno é uma das possíveis estratégias de manejo integrado da doença. Assim, objetivou-se mapear áreas de risco de ocorrência para a ferrugem do eucalipto no Espírito Santo e extremo sul da Bahia. Para tanto, calculou-se o índice de infecção (II), a partir da média diária da temperatura máxima (T) e da duração do período de molhamento foliar (H), conforme o modelo II = -32,263 + 3,699 T + 0,461 H - 0,0018 TH - 0,0903 T² - 0,0068 H². Os dados utilizados foram obtidos do banco de dados meteorológicos, das regiões de Aracruz e São Mateus (Espírito Santo) e da Região Teixeira de Freitas (Bahia), referentes aos anos de 2001 a 2006, totalizando 26 estações meteorológicas. A partir do índice de infecção, realizou-se o cálculo de um fator de correção, definido como a razão entre o valor 100 e o maior valor interpolado do índice de infecção, para classificar os valores obtidos dentro de uma escala de 0 e 100 pontos de risco, gerando o índice de risco. Com base no valor do índice de risco, elaboraram-se mapas de distribuição espaço-temporal da ocorrência da doença, utilizando o software ArcGis 9.2TM. Os meses de maio a novembro foram os mais favoráveis para ocorrência da doença. Considerando a distribuição espaço-temporal a metodologia adotada mostrou-se eficiente para o mapeamento do risco de ocorrência da ferrugem do eucalipto para o estado do Espírito Santo e extremo sul da Bahia.

Eucalyptus rust caused by Puccinia psidii Winter, is one of the most important diseases of Eucalyptus. The pathogen causes disease mainly in leaves, stems and young shoots, under conditions of leaf wetness up to 6 hours for 5 to 7 consecutive days and temperatures from 18 to 25 º C, with optimum 23 º C. Considering the influence of climatic conditions in the life cycle of the pathogen, the planting of eucalyptus in times and places unfavorable to the occurrence and development of the pathogen is one of the possible strategies for integrated disease management. This study aimed to map risk areas for the occurrence of eucalyptus rust in the Espírito Santo and southern Bahia. Therefore, was calculated the rate of infection (II) from the average daily maximum temperature (T) and duration of leaf wetness (H) as the model II = -32.263 + 3.699 T + 0.461 H - TH 0.0018 - 0.0903 T2 - 0.0068 H2. The data used were obtained from the meteorological database, of the Região Aracruz and São Mateus (Espírito Santo) and Região Teixeira de Freitas (Bahia) for the years 2001 to 2006, a total of 26 weather stations. From the rate of infection was carried out to calculate a correction factor, defined as the ratio between the value 100 and the highest interpolated value of infection rate, to classify the values within a range from 0 to 100 points risk, generating the risk index. Based on the value of risk index, drawn up maps of spatial and temporal distribution of disease occurrence, using the software ArcGIS 9.2 TM. According to the results it is concluded that the months from May to November are the most favorable for the occurrence of the disease. The adopted methodology was efficient for the mapping of the risk of eucalyptus rust, considering the spatial and temporal distribution.

A ferrugem, causada pelo fungo Pucciniapsidii, constitui em uma das principais doenças do eucalipto no Brasil. O patógeno causa doença em minijardim clonal e em plantas novas no campo, principalmente em folhas e em brotações juvenis. As condições climáticas favoráveis para infecção deste patógeno em eucalipto incluem temperatura entre 18 a25 ºC, com períodos de pelo menos 6 horas de molhamento foliar, por 5 a 7 dias consecutivos. Considerando a interação entre ambiente e patógeno, o presente trabalho objetivou avaliar o impacto potencial das mudanças climáticas globais sobre a distribuição espacial de áreas de risco para ocorrência da ferrugem do eucalipto, no Brasil. Para isso, elaboraram-se mapas mensais das áreas de risco para ocorrência da doença, considerando as condições climáticas atuais, com base em uma série histórica entre 1961 e 1990 e, os cenários futuros A2 e B2, previstos pelo IPCC. As condições climáticas foram classificadas em três categorias, de acordo com o risco potencial de ocorrência da doença, considerando a temperatura (T) e umidade relativa do ar (UR): i) alto risco (18 < T < 25 ºC e UR > 90%); ii) médio risco (18 < T < 25 ºC e UR < 90%; T< 18 ou T > 25 ºC e UR > 90%); e iii) baixo risco (T < 18 ou T > 25 ºC e UR < 90%). Os dados sobre os cenários climáticos futuros foram fornecidos pelo GCM Change Fields. Empregou-se neste trabalho o modelo de simulação Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research (HadCm3), utilizando o software Idrisi 32. Com base nos resultados obtidos foi possível concluir que haverá redução da área favorável para ocorrência da ferrugem do eucalipto, sendo que esta redução será gradativa para as décadas de 2020, 2050 e 2080, sendo mais acentuada no cenário A2 que no B2. Entretanto, é importante ressaltar que extensas áreas ainda continuarão favoráveis ao desenvolvimento da doença, principalmente nos meses mais frios do ano, ou seja, junho e julho. Sendo assim, o zoneamento das áreas e épocas de maior risco de ocorrência, considerando as mudanças climáticas globais, tornam-se importantes conhecimentos para elaboração de modelos de previsão e de alerta para o manejo integrado da doença.

Rust, caused by Puccinia psidii, is one of the most important diseases affecting eucalyptus in Brazil. This pathogen causes disease in mini-clonal garden and in young plants in the field, especially in leaves and juvenile shoots. Favorable climate conditions for infection by this pathogen in eucalyptus include temperature between 18 and 25 ºC, together with at least 6-hour leaf wetness periods, for 5 to 7 consecutive days. Considering the interaction between the environment and the pathogen, this study aimed to evaluate the potential impact of global climate changes on the spatial distribution of areas of risk for the occurrence of eucalyptus rust in Brazil. Thus, monthly maps of the areas of risk for the occurrence of this disease were elaborated, considering the current climate conditions, based on a historic series between 1961 and 1990, and the future scenarios A2 and B2, predicted by IPCC. The climate conditions were classified into three categories, according to the potential risk for the disease occurrence, considering temperature (T) and air relative humidity (RH): i) high risk (18 < T < 25 ºC and RH > 90%); ii) medium risk (18 < T < 25 ºC and RH < 90%; T< 18 or T > 25 ºC and RH > 90%); and iii) low risk (T < 18 or T > 25 ºC and RH < 90%). Data about the future climate scenarios were supplied by GCM Change Fields. In this study, the simulation model Hadley Centers for Climate Prediction and Research (HadCm3) was adopted, using the software Idrisi 32. The obtained results led to the conclusion that there will be a reduction in the area favorable to eucalyptus rust occurrence, and such a reduction will be gradual for the decades of 2020, 2050 and 2080 but more marked in scenario A2 than in B2. However, it is important to point out that extensive areas will still be favorable to the disease development, especially in the coldest months of the year, i.e., June and July. Therefore, the zoning of areas and periods of higher occurrence risk, considering the global climate changes, becomes important knowledge for the elaboration of predicting models and an alert for the integrated management of this disease.

O artigo descreve inicialmente o lugar do community college no sistema de ensino superior norte-americano. Narra sua origem, crescimento, as fontes de renda, articulação com as demais instituições de ensino superior. Em seguida, registra alguns dos problemas do sistema - ao lado da ampliação do acesso, as análises têm apontado a fragilidade do sucesso, isto é, da performance dos estudantes, bem como da equidade, isto é, da forte estratificação e hierarquização do sistema educativo americano. Assim, argumenta-se que os dilemas e problemas não são estritamente localizados no sistema escolar, mas em uma formação social em que a desigualdade é particularmente aguda.

Initially, the article tries to describe the role of Community Colleges in the American system of higher education. It describes its origin, growth, income sources, and relationship with other higher education institutions. After that, it shows some of the problems of the system - alongside the increase in access, the analyses have pointed to the fragility of the success, i.e., students' performance, as well as equity showing the strong stratification and hierarchy of the American educational system. Therefore, it is argued that the dilemmas and problems are not strictly related to the school system, but to a social formation in which inequality is particularly high.

El artículo describe inicialmente el lugar del community college en el sistema de educación superior norteamericano. Narra su origen, crecimiento, las fuentes de ingreso, así como su articulación con las demás instituciones de educación superior. En seguida, registra algunos de los problemas del sistema - al lado de la ampliación del acceso, los análisis han señalado la fragilidad del éxito, es decir, del desempeño de los estudiantes, así como de la equidad, o sea, la fuerte estratificación y jerarquización del sistema educativo norteamericano. De este modo, se argumenta que los dilemas y problemas no se localizan estrictamente en el sistema escolar, sino en una formación social en que la desigualdad es particularmente aguda.
