Summary
This study presents an analysis of the population increase of Manaus covering the period from 1950 to 1970. The calculations were based on the census for the years 1950, 1960 and 1970, vital statistics, municipal registries of births and deaths, files of maternity hospitals, and other hospital data for the 20 year period. The study deals with four populational aspects: population increases, mortality, fertility, and mass migrations. In this paper is presented an analysis of the populational increases, and of the patterns of mortality.
