Cardiorespiratory effects of tiletamine-zolazepan in hypovolemic dogs

Cardiovascular alterations were studied in 14 mongrel dogs divided into two groups (A n=7 control; B n=7, with hypovolemic dogs) under sevoflurane anesthesia (0.5 minimal alveolar concentration - MAC). Thirty minutes after the induction, blood was removed from right femural artery, equivalent to 30ml/bw (body weight). Thirty minutes past bleeding 10 mg/kg tiletamine-zolazepan (TZ) were given intravenously. No changes were noticed in heart rate, arterial blood pressure and cardiac output but TZ had induced transitory apnea immediately after injection. It was observed that tiletamine- zolazepan produced transitory breathing depression and it seems that it do not induce significant cardiovascular changes in hypovolemic dogs.
