Psychological characteristics and power of ego in Behçet’s uveitis

RESUMO

Este estudo duplo-cego comparou dois grupos de pacientes: 9 com Síndrome de Behçet e 21 do grupo-controle com as seguintes uveítes: Toxoplasmose, Tuberculose, Sarcoidose, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada e uveíte anterior. O estudo incluiu duas entrevistas e o Teste Desiderativo.

As características psicológicas e a força de ego foram similares, contrariando outras publicações de estudos não controlados. Os pacientes com Síndrome de Behçet não apresentaram personalidade diferente dos pacientes com outras uveítes.

Os resultados mostraram egos fracos, dificuldades pessoais e familiares, tendência à repressão de afetos e emoções, ansiedade e imaturidade emocional em todos os pacientes com uveítes.

SUMMARY

In a double blind study the AA compared the psychological characteristics and power of ego of patients with Behçet’s uveitis compared to other uveitis.

The method included psychological interviews and a desiderative test applied in all patients by a psychologist that did not know the specific diagnosis of the uveitis.

All patients had active uveitis and most of them were receiving similar medication. Contrary to what has been published in non controlled studies Behçet’s patients did not present different personality characteristics when compared to patients with other types of uveitis.
