Topical effects of eye drops of 0.04% mitomicin C applied before pterygium excision on corneal sensitivity, on precorneal tear film and on corneoconjunctival epithelium

SUMMARY

This study was carried out to determine the effect of topical mitomycin C 0. 04% instilled postoperatively 1 drop four times a day for 2 weeks (39 cases) with controls (38 cases) on corneal sensitivity measure, Schirmer 1 test, break-up time of the precorneal tear film and rose bengal test.

The research demonstrates that the use of 0. 04% mitomycin C eyedrops has not influenced the corneal sensitivity, the precorneal tear film, and the corneoconjunctival epithelium.
