Inquérito entre pacientes e médicos sobre as estratégias aplicadas na prevenção e tratamento da retinopatia diabética^*

Strategies adopted by patients and physicians in the management of diabetic retinopathy

RESUMO

O objetivo do presente estudo foi o de analisar as atitudes de manejo adotadas por médicos e pacientes na prevenção e tratamento da retinopatia diabética em nosso Estado. Quarenta e sete pacientes, de clínicas privadas e serviços previdenciários de saúde, e quarenta e cinco clínicos e endocrinologistas foram entrevistados de forma protocolada. Os resultados mostraram que apenas 29,7% dos pacientes procuraram aos oftalmologistas orientados por seus médicos especialistas, 80,8% dosando a glicemia ocasionalmente, e apenas 10% seguindo um esquema intensificado de tratamento. Entre os médicos, apenas 22% faziam fundoscopia de rotina, e somente 44% indicavam adequadamente os exames oftalmológicos. Os resultados desta amostragem mostram uma expressiva distância entre o que é recomendado e aquilo que é realizado no manejo da retinopatia diabética em nosso meio.

SUMMARY

The current study aimed to analyse the way physicians and patients manage the prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy in our State. The authors interviewed 47 patients, from both private and social services, and 45 internists and endocrinologists. The results denoted that only 29, 7% of the patients were referred to an ophthalmologist by their physician, 80,7% eventually checked glucoseleveis and just 10% followed a straight fine of treatment. Among the physicians only 22% used to perform routine ophthalmoscopy and just 44% correctly sugested complete eye examination.
