Avaliação da acuidade visual e da ceratometria após a cirurgia do pterígio

Change in visual acuity and keratometry after pterygium surgery

RESUMO

O estudo consistiu na avaliação da acuidade visual e da ceratometria pré e pós-cirúrgica do pterígio.

Foram estudados 21 pacientes consecutivos portadores de pterígio medial primário, idades variando de 22 a 66 anos (idade média 44,71) de março a novembro de 1993. No pré-operatório, 18 (85,7%) dos pacientes tinham astigmatismo a favor da regra.

No pós-operatório observou-se melhora da acuidade visual em 16 (76,2%) pacientes e diminuição do astigmatismo em 17 (81%).

Não ocorreu variação da acuidade visual e da ceratometria no intervalo do 1º para o 3º mês de pós-operatório.

SUMMARY

We evaluated visual acuity and keratometry variations in twenty one patients that underwent surgery for pterygium removal. Measurements were performed preoperative, 1 and 3 months after surgery.

Uncorrected visual acuity improved in 16 (76,2%) patients. Seventeen (81%) patients presented significant reduction of corneal astigmatism.

Further studies are necessary to better understand the effects of pterygium on visual acuity.
