SUMMARY
Ectopic lens is present in various diseases, which in spite of being rare, are related to serious visual complications. The Marfan Syndrome was the most often disease at the present study. In these case the lens commonly deslocates to the superior and temporal pupilar area. The ectopic lens produces important reduction in the visual acuity, and may be associated with amblyopia. This paper presents the frequency and causes of ectopic lens in all patients examined in the Genetic Service the Departament of Ophthalmology of the Escola Paulista de Medicina in the period from 1985 till 1993. We conclude that the early diagnosis and ocular rehabilitation are important prior to the prevention of amblyopia and strabismus.
