Open-access Glued-in steel rods in parica plywood and LVL

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the mechanical performance of joints with threaded steel bars glued with two different adhesives to paricá plywood and LVL, with a view to their structural use. Axial load tests were carried out on 90 test samples with 6,35 mm diameter bars, glued with epoxy (EPX) and castor oil-based polyurethane (PUR) adhesives, with anchoring lengths corresponding to 10, 12,5 and 15 times the diameter of the bars. The results allowed to conclude that increasing the anchorage length resulted in a nonlinear increase in the load capacity of connections with EPX. Connections with EPX exhibited higher rupture loads, surpassing the calculated loads obtained by NBR 7190-1 (ABNT, 2002a) and NBR 8800 (ABNT, 2008) standards. Connections with PUR showed the lowest rupture values, caused by insufficient physical-chemical interaction between the adhesive and the wood.
