Eco-efficient bricks of raw clay with solid waste and industrial effluent using unconventional technologies

Abstract

Housing is an important durable economic good for human beings, constituting a fundamental social right and indicative of a dignified life. However, the global shortage of safe, quality and affordable housing is worrying. Considering the brick as one of the main components of civil construction, being the one with the highest volume employed, the present work aimed at developing, based on unconventional technologies, the eco-efficient clay and waste brick (TeBR), stabilized with the encapsulation of solid waste and industrial effluent in the soil, without burning and without Portland cement, with two holes horizontal to the masonry, with no structural function. The statistical analysis of the simple compressive strength of the specimens was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by the multiple comparison test (p<0.05), for 28, 56 and 84 days, with the TMG trace significantly higher than the TBA. The compressive strengths at 84 days met the values established by standards. The most significant values occurred with traces 2TMG (1.2 MPa), 3TMG, 1TMG and 2TBA (1.1 MPa). In the water absorption tests, the limits were between 8.41% and 8.99%. Therefore, TeBR can contributing to housing of social interest in the pattern of sustainable development.
