Impacts of energy conservation measures proposed at the PBE Edifica for the energy efficiency level of envelopes of a naturally conditioned building

In its 2010 version, the Technical Quality Requirements for Energy Efficiency Levels of Commercial and Public Buildings (QTR-C) included unmeasured evaluation features, since they were based on theoretical concepts. This paper aims to evaluate these impacts through the simulation of a naturally conditioned building, used for this study, with the application of energy conservation measures: glazing wall, triangular solar protections, horizontal solar protections along the façades, translucent skylights, solar absorptance of external walls, all compared with a base case, a building without any solar shading. The building simulation on EnergyPlus provided operative temperatures for which comfort limits were calculated according to the ASHRAE Standard 55. The base case presented efficiency level B, while the alternative with glazing wall and Solar Factor 0.83, presented efficiency level A; all the others presented efficiency level B, due to discomfort caused by cold in bioclimatic zone 3. The alternative with horizontal solar protections, with 25cm fins, showed the lowest numerical equivalent. The study indicated the need to measure similar variables in other naturally conditioned building models and in other sites in the same bioclimatic zone in order to confirm the potential and limitations of these measures in QTR-C.
