Provision of the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program in São José do Rio Preto (SP): urban insertion and socioeconomic and environmental adequacy - a case study of the New Hope housing project

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the production of social housing in the city of São José do Rio Preto, funded by the 'Minha casa, minha vida' programme, as well as to identify urban condition aspects of this production regarding socioeconomic and urbanistic adequacy, which influence quality of life and access to infrastructure, urban and of de use group services. The study performed a general characterisation of the 'Minha casa, minha vida' housing projects (PMCMV), which allowed the evaluation of urban insertion and social-spatial segregation patterns. The procedures used were methods and qualitative techniques suitable for the achievement of the research aims, which seek specific aspects of the fields of research in accordance with the scope of the study. Finally, guidelines were drafted in order to contribute to the study of housing policy improvement, not only in the chosen city, but the ones targeted at Minha Casa Minha Vida Program.
