Generational psychic transmission linked with the dimensions of repetition and transformation

Abstract:

This paper presents a brief background on current family configurations in order to articulate the desire of families towards generational psychic transmission. It takes as its starting point the Freudian concept of transmission, discussing it in the intersection of the individual, cultural and generational dimensions. Therefore, it highlights the unconscious dimension of what is transmitted in its relationship with the repetition, and the possibility of transforming the received content into something unique. Finally, the distinction between what the authors refer to as intergenerational and transgenerational psychic transmission is made, based on the analysis of fragments of a case study.
