ABSTRACT
The present paper has the objective of describing for the first time in the state of São Paulo the isolation of Arcobacter cryaerophilus strains from seven fetuses, four swines and three bovines. From these animais, other abortifacient bacterial agents were not diagnosed. This can support the hypothesis that the abortions can be related to the presence of A. cryaerophilus. The investigation of A. cryaerophilus in cases of abortion among both swines and bovines, should be enhanced, in arder to provide data leading to an understanding of its virulent mechanisms.
