ABSTRACT
Abnormalities in leaves and panicles of millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) were observed in cultivated areas located in Cascavel county, state of Paraná, Brazil, in November, 1995. These abnormalities were characterized by brownish necrotic leaf streaks and panicle branches blight. Bacteria isolated from infected materiais showing these kind of symptoms were characterized by biochemical, cultural, physiological, serological and pathogenicity tests as Acidovorax avenae subsp. avenae (syn. Pseudomonas avenae). This is the first relate of A. avenae subsp. avenae affecting millet in Brazil. Cultures were deposited in the IBSBF Culture Collection under accession numbers 1228 and 1229.
