Sender in metamorphosis: Joan Ponç in the brazilian cultural whirlwind

Abstract

This article intends to discuss the period in which the painter Joan Ponç, one of the renovators of the artistic vanguards of the Spanish civil war in Brazil. Of the almost ten years in the country, from 1953 to 1962, we will restrict ourselves to the period from 1956 to 1959, to reflect on his contacts, appropriations and restraints in Brazilian lands. Through this discussion, we intend to reveal some changes in Catalan painting as an effect of its Brazilian period and contribute to reflect on its importance in the 1950s and 1960s in Brazil and its spatial and aesthetic transit in the Brazilian art scene.
