Interview with Ottmar Ette

Abstract

This interview with Ottmar Ette, Professor of Comparative Literature and Romance Languages, was held at the University of Potsdam in 2018. Its aim was to highlight the theorist’s ideas about different theoretical approaches introduced by him in his works. The questions deal with the contemporary context, mobility in the present day, displacement and influence on the formation of the self as represented in literature; about the epistemology of the movements’ dimensions in their levels and the recognition of literature as an important provider of knowledge about and for life. In addition, Ette discusses Brazilian literature and its relevance worldwide, also highlighting the reappearance of female figures and appreciation of female writing. Finally, Mette briefly alludes to the book WeltFraktale: Wege durch die Literaturen der Welt and his concept of Literaturen der Welt (literatures of the world). Thus, the present interview enabled a better understanding of some concepts approached by the theorist, which brought theoretical and analytical contributions to the different lines of literary studies.
