Michel Pêcheux: between the obvious and the complex name

This study aims at presenting some considerations on the initial parts of the work Semântica e Discurso: uma crítica à afirmação do óbvio (Stating the obvious: from Semantics to Discourse), by Michel Pêcheux, considered to be the founder of French Discourse Analysis. Among the issues on Pêcheux that are discussed by those who study him and take him as a theoretical basis, I choose two which seem not to have been subject to reflection or questioning. They refer to the place (non-place or out of place) of Semantics, which would state the obvious, and to the choice of relative clauses as a "linguistic" problem for the constitution/demonstration of the Discourse Theory. I seek to reflect on how these two issues appear in Pêcheux's reflections, in an attempt to contribute somehow to the reader so that he might have some support in reading the work mentioned.
