Abstract
The article deals with the gradual symbolic incorporation of the Maranhão Province in the new political body built from Rio de Janeiro, the new center of Imperial authority that was formally recognized in July 1823. As its main sources, the article uses the expressions of recognition of the Emperor's authority held between 1823 and 1825, the oaths to the 1824 Constitution, and finally the festivals that marked the acclamation of the Emperor and the first-year Imperial Prince's anniversary celebrations from October to December 1826
