OBJECTIVES: To determine whether patients with coronary artery disease adhere to pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy and to identify factors that might influence these patients' adherence to the therapies. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was used. The sample consisted of 92 patients who had their first myocardium infarction. Adherence to pharmacological therapy was determined with Morisky test. Adherence to non-pharmacological therapy was evaluated though lifestyle modifications. RESULTS: The majority of the participants (64.1%) were male and had a mean age of 56.4 (SD = 10.9) years. More than a half of them (56.5%) adhered to pharmacological therapy while 40.2% of participants adhered to non-pharmacological therapy. CONCLUSION: The results show low levels of adherence to recommended therapy for secondary prevention of coronary arterial disease.
