Characteristics of actions of professionals nurses regarding the care provided by family members of hospitalized children

OBJECTIVES: To analyze the dynamics of care in pediatric inpatient units under the perspective of nurses and to learn the typical action of nurses regarding the care provided by the family of the hospitalized child. METHODS: Is a qualitative descriptive study, based on the phenomenological sociology of Alfred Schutz. The subjects were 15 nurses from inpatient units of a hospital in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. RESULTS: The phenomenological interview allowed to know that the professional has as a "reason for": to do and give their best to face the difficulty of the relationship with the family, to care through verbal communication and with games to help the child's recovery and to train the family in the professional perspective. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It was conclude that the care provided by family members of hospitalized children is still a distant reality of Pediatric Nursing.
