Interview with Giuseppe Penone

In an interview held in his studio in Turin, on May 12, 2014, Giuseppe Penone talks about his interest in the technology of nature – the culture proper to nature –, about redefinitions of cultural values in which artists have taken nature as a start point and about his intention to confer on it a "dignity", in order to establish with the natural elements a relation of parity, observing, sensibly, its vital behaviors. The artist, corroborating the notion of depersonalization of art, will echo Duchamp and his ready-made, from the etymology of the word invention. If there is any invention in his work, it resides, for Penone, in the encounters that take place in the world.
