Physiological quality of soybean seed cultivars and lineages in Minas Gerais State

The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality of soybean seed genotypes and identify those with the highest quality. The seeds used were soybean cultivars and lineages, with mean/semi-late and late maturation cycles, picked in eight final lineage evaluation assays (four in each maturation cycle), of the Program for Soybean Genetic Improvement of the Department of Plant Science at UFV, conducted in Capinópolis 1 and 2, Tupaciguara and Florestal, State of Minas Gerais, during 2002/2003. The experimental design used in each field assay was randomized blocks, with three repetitions. The quality of the seeds was evaluated by the germination tests and plant emergence in sand bed. Among the genotypes of mean and semi-late cycle, the seeds of the lineages UFV98 - 267F10RC1,3, UFV98 - 878565, UFV98 - 6011099, UFV01 - 606207B, UFV01 - 875386B and UFV99 - 9331958 presented average germination percentage, over 75%. Among late-cycle genotypes, none presented seeds with average germination percentage over 75% in all environments. There is great influence of the environment in the quality of the produced seeds, which vary from place to place.
