Influence of the Teachers’ Training Process in the Area Concept Teaching System in Mathematics Pedagogy Students, a Case Study

Abstract

In the process of training middle school mathematics teachers, which takes place at the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC), in the city of Concepción, Chile, we have been interested in observing the process of modifying the mathematics teaching system on a student, from the beginning in a geometry didactics course, until the practicum in a school. To account for the effects of this modification, a classroom management model based on the Theory of Didactic Situations was proposed, which allowed us to plan a geometry class to teach the area concept of a quadrilateral. To account for the teaching work carried out by the student in two exclusive moments; in the university classroom to their classmates in the role of a school student, and in the school when the same student as a teacher teaches real students. The teaching process carried out by the student was observed and contrasted with theoretical elements of the Mathematical Work Space (MWS).
