SUMMARY
Under the climatic conditions of the State of São Paulo, certain potato varieties bloom and sometimes set fruits. The influence of the flowering and fruiting upon tuber yield has been investigated.
Eleven experiments were carried out from 1944 to 1950, at six different localities in the State, with the varieties "Bronder Slew", "Konsuragis" and "Prummel P-299". The time of planting was the most favorable for blossoming. Treatments were : a) check ; b) plants which were prevented from blooming by cutting off their buds ; and c) plants which were allowed to bloom, but not to bear fruits.
The removal of flowers or fruits resulted in a very small, not statistically significant, increase in yield of tubers. The practice is therefore not recommended for economic considerations.
