Sugar cane variety trials in the State of São Paulo during the period 1959-1962

A series of sugar cane variety trials was carried out from 1959 to 1962, at the following localities in the State of São Paulo: 1) Usina São Martinho, Pradópolis, on terra-roxa soil type; 2) Fazenda Santa Clementina, Araras, and Usina Diamante, Jaú, both on terra-roxa-misturada soil; 3) Usina Itaiquara, Tapiratiba, on massapê-salmourão soil and 4) Usina Miranda, Presidente Alves, on Arenito de Bauru soil. Seventeen varieties were compared in lattice square, 4x4, with 5 replications. In each locality was excluded one variety. Three harvests (plant cane and two stubbles) were made in each test. The results indicated that besides the varieties Co 419 and CB 41/76 also can be planted the following: CB 49/260, CB 41/70, CB 41/14, N:Co 293, CB 47/15, CB 38/22 and CB 40/35.
