AVALIAÇÃO DE VARIEDADES DE GOIABEIRA EM MONTE ALEGRE DO (SP)

The main objective of this study was to confirm the results already obtained, which determined high yields for twenty one guava varieties during the growing stage. These varieties were evaluated at the Experimental Station of Monte Alegre do Sul, Instituto Agronômico, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The following parameters were analysed: average yields in 1991-93 (adult plant stage); total production obtained in 1986-93 (growing and adult plant stages); the mean weight of the fruits and, vegetative characteristics of each variety. The `Indiana Vermelha', was the most productive variety. Other varieties, such as, L2 P4 Vermelha, L4 P14 Branca, Monte Alto Vermelha, FAO 61, L7 P28 Vermelha and Torrão de Ouro also presented high yields. No statistical differences were observed among them. According to the evaluation, the greatest vegetative growth cannot be considered as a suitable characteristic for high yields.
