A pilot planting of the Hevea rubber tree (H. brasiliensis Muell.-Arg.) was established in the Juquiá area (24°10' south of the equator) to study the behavior of the plants under local environmental conditions. Data obtained from this pilot planting indicated that growth of the trees and latex yields were very satisfactory. Submitted to technological tests the latex produced proved to be of high quality. Based on the results obtained it is concluded that the environmental conditions in the Juquiá area render it favorable for the economical exploration of the rubber tree.
