Banana fertilizing experiments at the coast of São Paulo

This paper reports about the results of banana fertilizing experiments conducted in the coastal region of the State of São Paulo on a farm near Santos. These experiments on clay soil - as is common for cultures with this plant - were carried out by using chemical fertilizer, organic fertilizer (oil seed meals) and lime. It was observed that with the application of each element of the mineral N, P and K, isolatedly, its effect was none. However, applied m combination with double dosing of the other two fertilizers, the yields increased invariably and regularly in an ascending way. The experiment with oil seed meals revealed a sensible increase in production, though no appreciable difference was observed between cotton seed meal and castor bean pomace. As to the experiment with lime, where calcium carbonate comes in, there was no increase at all in production.
