Spacing and most favorable seed amounts in the rice culture on lowlands of the paraiba river

Through 5 trials carried out on the lowlands of the Paraíba Valley, it was attenpted to determine better rows spacing and most favorable seed amounts to be used in rice cultures. In these trials the seeds were distributed in the furrows by means of grain drills and ordinary flooding was used for irrigation. The final analysis of data made the authors arrive at the conclusion that a 30 cm spacing between rows worked better than a 60 cm one, but it did not show a significant difference to spacings of 20 and 40 cm. As far as amount of seed is concerned, data showed that better yields were obtained with 60 to 120 kg of seeds sown by hectare. However, even larger productions were obtained in two out of 5 trials, and it was noted that under general good crop conditions it made no difference either as to the rate being of 30, 60 or 120 kg/ha.
