Sugar cane variety trials 1957-1959

A series of three sugar cane variety trials was carried out from 1957 to 1959, at the following localities of the State of São Paulo: 1) Experiment Station of Ribeirão Prêto, and 2) Usina Tamoio, Araraquara, both on terra-roxa soil types, and 3) Usina Ester, Cosmópolis, on a terra-roxa-misturada glacial soil. The varieties given below were compared in a rectangular lattice for 30 treatments in 6 blocks of 5 units with 4 replications: Q. 48, Q. 49, Eros, Vesta, B. 37/161, B. 40/98, B. 41/227, N:Co. 292, N:Co. 293, N:Co. 334, N:Co. 339, CB. 37/44, CB. 44/87, CB. 44/90, CB. 44/105, CB. 46/40, CB. 46/47, CB. 47/8, CB. 47/107, CB. 47/114, CB. 47/164, CB. 47/296, CB. 48/12, CB. 49/15, CB. 49/129, CB. 49/227, CE. 50/66, Co. 419, CB. 40/69 and CB. 41/76. Two harversts (plant cane and one stubhe) were made each of the three tests Statistical analysis was made of cane and sugar yields of the first harvest as well as of the sum of the two harvests. The results showed that the varieties CB. 49/15; N:Co. 334 and CB. 44/105 gave good yields in the three tests, which recommend them for further tests, but the sugar content of th CB. 49/15 was very sactisfactory.
