Results from a pilot planting of hevea rubber

The results presented in this paper were obtained in a pilot planting of Hevea rubber (H. brasiliensis Muell.-Arg.) made with the Tj-1 x Tj-16. The planting was located near Iguape at 24° 30' south of the Equator in an areas of low elevation. Environmental conditions prevailing in the region permitted a normal development of the ruhber trees. They were in a condition to be explored commercially 7 1/2 years after sowing. Tree productivity was calculated by means of the Morris-Mann test and also determined by tappings carried out later. Latex extraction from 1300 trees gave 480 kg of dry rubber (D. R. C.) in the first years they were tapped.
