Rooting of renewed cuttings of bambusa vulgaris schrad. Treated with naphtalene acetic acid

The rooting levels of renewed cuttings of Bambusa vulgaris were determined after treatments with NAA, a rooting-promoting substance named naphthalene acetic acid. Three types of cuttings were studied (basal, primary and secondary). These cuttings were obtained 60 days after the mother clumps have been felled. For the treatment with the rooting-promoting substance, the lower end of the cuttings remained in different NAA concentrations (0, 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/L) for 24 hours. The best rooting levels were obtained with the basal cuttings, when the NAA concentration was 100 mg/L. The primary cuttings showed poor rooting formation, while the secondary cuttings showed no rooting. This study was carried out at the Centro Experimental de Campinas (Instituto Agronômíco de Campinas), State of São Paulo, Brazil, from January 15 until August 6, 1992.
