Osmocote® and alternative substrates for growth of yellow passion fruit seedlings

Growing seedlings of high quality is still a challenge for yellow passion fruit culture. The use of high quality and fertilization substrates is a way to cope with this challenge. This work had the objetive to evaluate the effects of alternative substrates and Osmocote® dosages in the production of yellow passion fruit seedlings. The experiment was carried out under nursery conditions with 50% of shadow at the Lavras Federal University (UFLA) orchard. The experimental design was in randomized blocks in a two factors arrangement (5 x 2), with four replicates and five plants per plot. The treatments were different dosages of Osmocote® (15-10-10): 0; 3; 6; 9 and 12 kg.m-3 of substrate and different substrate mixtures: A (Plantmax® + sand + soil in the proportion of 1:1:2 v/v) and B (cow manure + cofee peel + vegetable coal + sand + soil in the proportion of 1:1: 1: 1: 2 v/v). Plants height, number of leaves, dry matter of aerial part and roots were evaluated. The results showed that higher dosages of Osmocote® (15-10-10) induced yellow passion fruit seedlings with better quality and the substrates mixtures that were used did not present significant difference in seedling quality.
