Experiences of teaching, research and extension at the HIJG pedagogy department

The goal of this article is to discuss the experiences with the extension project and the curricular practice (training period) in the last stage of the Pedagogy Course (CED/UFSC), in the School Counseling and School Supervision graduation courses. This experience was developed with the Pedagogy department of the Joana de Gusmão Children's Hospital (Hospital Infantil Joana de Gusmão - HIJG). It has been having positive results since 2000, both for the hospital work and for the education of new Pedagogy academics. The Curricular practice (training period) and the academic extension get entwined to answer the academic education demands and, at the same time, provide the community with assistance and effective work. This text focuses on the organization of the Hospital Class from the 5th to the 8th grade to assist hospitalized students/patients at the Joana de Gusmão Children's Hospital and on the production of informative material about the hospital class work as the main results of this study.
