History teaching and cultural diversity: challenges and perspectives

This essay discusses the theme of cultural diversity and its implications in History teaching. The adoption of Law nº 10.639, in 2003, which introduced the obligation of teaching the African-Brazilian and African history and culture in the basic education syllabus, contributed to the discussion of this issue, by allowing a rupture with the Eurocentric education model, and the construction of a multicultural education system in Brazilian schools.
