BODY, POLITICS, EDUCATION OF SEEING: FASCIST IMAGES BY LENI RIEFENSTAHL

ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes aspects of two documentaries directed by Leni Riefenstahl in the 1930s, pointing the presence of the body as nature in both narratives. Triumph of the will, on the Congress of the National Socialist Party in Nuremberg, 1934, and Olympia, in charge of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin are seen as pedagogical devices highlighting the body purity arising from the consanguineous bond, a possibility of forming a fascist community. This is due to the aestheticization of politics and the circumscription of the body and its image as pure nature.
