This article analyzes the recent evolution of the socioespatial segregation in Salvador to the light of the debate about transformations of the metropolises in the globalized capitalism. Recognizing that all the big cities in some way end up being touched by globalization, the text points out that, however, the impacts of that process are not uniform nor converge to a single city model. It is necessary to consider the historical conformation of each city, its institutions, actors and local political decisions, inside of a dynamics defined by the continuity/transformation, where the preexisting conditions the appearance of the new, which, in many cases, had already begun be felt in the past. Showing how an extremely unequal and segregated metropolis was formed how last years' transformations are worsening those perversions, the analysis of the case of Salvador illustrates those considerations.
