SnO2 and TiO2 based electronic ceramics

The development of the research work on SnO2- and TiO2-based electronic ceramics is reported. The doping with different materials as well as the thermal treatments at oxidizing and reducing atmospheres influence the densification, the average grain size and the varistor performance of the tin oxide ceramics. The impedance spectroscopy results show the differences in height and width of the potential barriers depending on the atmosphere during thermal annealing. High non linear coefficients were obtained for SnO2-based systems, similar to the ones obtained for commercial ZnO high voltage varistors. Results on TiO2 and (Sn,Ti)O2 polycrystalline ceramics, with non-linear I-V characteristics typical for low voltage varistor systems, are also reported. All these ceramic systems are potential candidates for varistor devices.
