This article discusses the innovative performance of two samples of Brazilians companies present in the database of the National Association of Research in Industrial Companies (Anpei): one group composed by privatized companies, and the general group of companies. The comparative analysis is based on indicators of technological innovation produced by Anpei and refers to the period 1994 - 1998. The methodology for constructing the indicators reflects the orientations of the Oslo Manual -- OCDE, and they aim to produce relevant information in order to contribute to a greater understanding of the innovative process in companies.
