The technological modifications and the new concepts of information resource management are breaking the traditional library model paradigm. The concept of virtual library is an alternative to amplify the search and access to informational sources, in a wide world, in a qualitative, pertinent and racional manner, joinning local access to remot access by infoways. In spite of the concept of virtual library is still being constructed, a carefull planning is desirable for the change the traditional library to the virtual library perspective. Some steps for this evaluation are discussed, mainly for specialized libraries, as well as some experiences in process in developed countries. The development of new profiles for librarians and library staff is urgent, in order to ensure changes in attitudes and activities.
