Educational objects, metadata and repositories in the information society

This article deals with the objects of learning in the context of information society and presents the main concepts described in the literature for this new didactic resource. The standards metadata for describing objects of learning are pointed out, bringing into focus objectives and institutions responsible for their development. The most representative repositories existing at national and international level are pointed out, underlining their main characteristics. As a conclusion, some considerations about the benefits of this new initiative are bought forth for the access to educational resources, emphasizing the contributions of Information and Library Sciences to this area.
