This article analyses different aspects of the content "Phases of the Moon", content that is complex to teach and difficult to learn on account of the high degree of abstraction of the concepts and the spatial understanding that it requires. In this work the facts that allow the understanding of the phases of the Moon aredescribed. The most common misconceptions found in adults and children are defined, and didactic activities for this content teaching set out and the treatment of this subject in some textbooks and some curriculum designs examined.
