Families and intergenerational relationships: Autonomization and social bonds

Abstract:

The discourses of the public policies and many actors involved in the field of ageing praises “inter-generation” actions. This goal appears to be less taken into account by old people and very little by the young people. Starting from one qualitative and three quantitative investigations, we showed that no matter if it is inter or intra “generational”, “familial”, friendly or neighborly, the most important thing seemed to be the relationship, the fear of loneliness. The word “intergenerational” then appears as the construction of an administrative category used as a communication tool.
