Space in geography and the space of architecture: epistemological reflections

Abstract

Geography and architecture are two areas of knowledge whose respective subject corpora apparently focus on the same object – space. This is the starting point of these theoretical notes, the objective of which is to draw attention to certain epistemological distinctions between the above-mentioned areas. Therefore, in the first part, it is noted that it was only in the 1970s that the concept of space became a key concept of geography. Moreover, possible differentiations of this concept are announced in comparison with the theoretical formulation of architectonic space. In the second part, the theoretical and methodological specificities that define architectural space are indicated. It is hoped that the reflections presented in this article will contribute to minimize possible instances of epistemological confusion.
