The Notion of Guilt [Schuld] in the Perspectives of Nietzsche and Heidegger

Abstract:

This research analyzes the notion of guilt [Schuld] from the perspectives of the German philosophers Nietzsche and Heidegger. Observing the importance of investigating guilt in Nietzsche's writings, we realize that overcoming guilt revealed his intention to see the emergence of a higher culture than morality. Already in Heidegger's ontological search for the meaning of being, Schuld is conceived as an essential constitution, as a way of being originating from being-in-the-world. Far from undertaking a comparative analysis of the notions of guilt in such different philosophical evaluations, our intention is to investigate the relevance of Schuld in the critical perspective of Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals and in the ontological thought of Heidegger's Being and Time.
